it's always interesting and puzzling too, reading all the postings - I visit the site throughout a 24 hr period but that's in OZ west and it's now 09.20 am - wot have you got around your way?? it will stop some of my confusion!!

OK just found this :

From east to west they are Atlantic Standard Time (AST), Eastern Standard Time(EST), Central Standard Time (CST), Mountain Standard Time (MST), Pacific Standard Time (PST), Alaskan Standard Time (AKST), Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time (HST), Samoa standard time (UTC-11) and Chamorro Standard Time(UTC+10).

which one do YOU fit into?? it will just keep me grounded !!

and that's leaving Canada out too - no let's check them now!

Generalized Time Zones in Canada

Time Zone Abbreviation & NameOffsetCurrent Time
PTPacific TimeUTC -8:00 / -7:00Fri, 6:32:45 pm
MTMountain TimeUTC -7:00 / -6:00Fri, 7:32:45 pm
CTCentral TimeUTC -6:00 / -5:00Fri, 8:32:45 pm
ETEastern TimeUTC -5:00 / -4:00Fri, 9:32:45 pm
ATAtlantic TimeUTC -4:00 / -3:00Fri, 10:32:45 pm

on the site this comes from the times on the right column are real time and clicking by the second!

Oz is relatively easy - Eastern standard time and Western standard time - we like to keep it simple see!

Uk is easy for me as I'm in touch a lot but I'm sure I've left someone out.

I purchased a desktop clock made by a german fellow a few years ago and can set as many countries as I want up with their own clock but I guess that could fill the entire screen - which misses the point! wow all sorts of interactive time zone maps around but that doesn't still connect me with YOU!

thanks - I'm a bit of a musician played sax and clarinet once - so theres many tunes stay in my head "stars fell on alabama" comes to mind! you must be about 13 hrs behind me then - god I hope we're not all heading towards an asteroid - I'm in the drivers seat!!

thanks all so far - I've always been a fussy bugger and obsessed with measuring things etc etc. but so far apart from Keesha everyone is between 3-1 hrs behind moi so that makes things easy for not being along on the site too long!

by the way I have used an electronic world clock on my desktop for a few years now totally reliable and the original deal gave you the option to put the same clock on two separate pc's http://www.sharpworldclock.com - german manufature - perfect!

Oh I always get confused with all those Time Zones, I don't understand them at all..

Here it's easy....except I wish they'd abolish the daylight saving time, but we've been saying it for ever so it won't happenn..

Anyway..tonight the clocks go forward and we leap into Spring...

well the desk top electronic timezone clock changes it all for me automatically - nifty heh!

Time zones are interesting, but I don't understand the
need for the international date line, that confuses me,
it must have been to make East Asia the start of the
Year, puzzling.

Another puzzle is where they all meet at the poles,
both at the North and the South pole, if you leave
the pole in any direction other than the one you
arrived from, you won't know what the time is,
unless that there is a rule about time in the whole
area.

Russia has 10 time zones I believe.

Mike.

I found this a good description and explanation? https://www.worldtimeserver.com/learn/what-is-the-international-date-line/

I've been admonished a couple of times when I sent text messages to Oz, forgetting the time
difference :stung: I'm on EST.

Well tonight the UK changes from Greenwich Mean time to British Summer Time.Which restores the normal time differences with the rest of the planet. So we will again be five hours ahead of Eastern time.Simples.

optical illusions???

anyway thanks for all your responses folks - I don't feel so alone anymore. The time differences with most folks is between 1-4 hrs so that's not so bad - there are a few outliers like keesha in Canada and my dear sis who lives there - there it is a 12 hr difference as I keep pointing out to sis - you are always way way behind the ozzies!

I'm already feeling the effects of one less hour sleep..and it's only just after 10am... :D
