Oh my goodness, this gives me hope! I've had it for many years, too... no one has ever determined what caused it. It got even worse when we were in a hotel room top floor and that shrill alarm those high occupancy buildings have went off in a storm. Weren't supposed to leave the room and it went on for quite a while. It has stayed extra bad since then, but truthfully I'm so used to it that I don't even think about it until it comes up in conversation like this. @hawkdon

My ears are an "earwax" factory, and when they clog up, I get a bunch of "ringing". When that happens, I lay down on my side, put a few drops of Debrox in the ears, let it "bubble for a few minutes, then flush the ears with some warm water, Invariably, a few chunks of earwax come out, and I'm good until the next time.

Also have had it for many years. My audiologist said it would go away with hearing aids... no such luck.
An audiologist should know better. Stuffing anything in the ears makes tinnitus worse by drowning out other sounds that can sometimes provide a distraction. That's why I often have trouble falling asleep without the TV on for 30 minutes.

I decided to try a sound machine a few years ago and now I run it every single night. In the summer, I use a regular fan, but for the rest of the time, the machine has a lot of sounds to choose from. I don't use the "fancy" sounds like raindrops or storming... it has five or six white noise sounds, so I use those.

A few years ago, I started hearing a certain noise, but only in my room at night. I thought it was coming from the electrical outlet.

After a few months, I heard it in another quiet environment, and realized it was actually in my head.

Thank goodness it's not too bad, and I can ignore it most of the time.

I have tinnitus also and the intensity fluctuates up and down for several factors also like pain medicines that I take. From what I have learned it does not deal with the physical ears, but it deals with the nerves in the brain that the ear mechanism sends the sound nerve impulses to.

HAHA - the first time I heard noises & didn't know what Tinnitus was, I checked everywhere inside & outside the house for water running.

I've never had it so bad as some have claimed 24/7 ringing in the ears. Glad you're feeling better today 😘😘

I've had it for years, as a "come and go" problem, not constant as some related. It's quite rare for it to reappear for more than 1 minute.

The ear specialist said there was nothing he could do for me, as I was leaving his receptionist told me to try the "Home Epley Maneuver". Went home searched it, tried it and it worked like a charm. It's not a permanent fix, but if I do it regularly it keeps the ringing away. Apparently it breaks up the calcium crystals that build up, if that's the issue.

If you ever get up and can't walk like your drunk you should try this maneuver. . I know one man that somehow got a grain of sand from a windy beach in his ear fluid (they be!ieved) He was totally incapacitated. The doctor did this and he had immediate relief.
I never heard of it for tinnitus but makes sense.

Loud sounds permanently damage cochlea hair sound sense cell connections to efferent nerves to the brain. Regretfully, damaged mine numerous times as a young twentysomething going to bars where speaker amps were set much too loud. Although went to endless rock concerts at large venues, even during the earliest era, road crews usually knew how to set up their equipment to reasonable levels. On the other hand, bar bands in small venues sometimes were clueless. At some point, began using foam earplugs, but the damage to my cochlea had already occurred. Constant annoying background sssshhhhhhhh.

I've had it for several decades

I attribute it to my 30-30 Winchester in my youth
Thought I was The Rifleman

My noise is only in my right ear.
Much like the sound of a seashore

Funny thing......presently, I wasn't conscious of the noise .....right up to reading this thread
