Tinnitus has been an issue for me for many, many

Tinnitus

I've had it for several decades

I attribute it to my 30-30 Winchester in my youth
Thought I was The Rifleman

My noise is only in my right ear.
Much like the sound of a seashore

Funny thing......presently, I wasn't conscious of the noise .....right up to reading this thread
HAHA. The Rifleman used a 44-40, less power & a little quieter than a 30-30.

I think mine is caused by spinal stenosis and damaged nerves in my neck. I recently started on a new muscle relaxer that has really helped my pain and has also made quite a difference in my tinnitus. I think it was caused from all the constant muscle contractions in my neck, head, shoulders and arms. Since I started the new med, the pain is pretty much gone, the migraines also, I still get what would be a normal headache but not the blinding throw up migraine. The tinnitus was mainly when I went to bed, came in the form of music of all things, has pretty much stopped. I am sleeping so much better now, even the racing thoughts have stopped, I guess the med makes my brain relax. IDK, it only took 11 years of suffering and searching and I finally have some relief.

I blame mine on a collateral duty on an aircraft carrier - safety officer during practice with a 5 inch antiaircraft cannon. I didn’t get any ear plugs, even defective ones. Had my hearing tested during a discharge physical. The doc told me I had a partial hearing loss — “At one time we would give you $10 a month. Now we just pat you on the back and send you on your way.”
Anyhow I attribute the 7x24 tinnitus to that gun. Just accept it and it no longer bothers me.

Jet engines on the flight deck. No hearing protection. That was a long time ago and I've gotten used to it.

I have it as well. Jet engines and listening to all types of weapons being discharged. Even using ear protection didn’t stop all the noise. We used to use a decibel meter. Any area over 75 decibels, we were required to wear hearing protection, but that never stopped completely stopped the noise. The ear doctor told me that even some medications have been tied to causing this disease.

I know what you mean about the flight deck - ouch. I didn’t get up there very often. I ran the engine rooms on an old Essex class carrier and practically lived in the Fwd Engine Room — General Quarters, refueling and taking on stores, into and leaving port, and regular watches. It wasn’t exactly quiet down there. I extended in exchange for two years in Spain. That was like a vacation compared to that carrier. Tinnitus and all I have never regretted that 5 years. Join the Navy and see the world.

Mine is from the shingles virus damaging my inner ear. The tinnitus while loud and tone-changing 24/7, is nothing compared to the imbalance and hearing loss from a vestibular nerve being eaten alive by the virus. I laugh about my tinnitus. I would probably freak out if it stopped and rush to the ER hahaha! I have had it for 25 years.

It's been about two weeks now, @hawkdon ... have you had any more relief? I'm having to keep my sound machine on a low level white noise nearly all day long now and not just to sleep. It doesn't stop the loud ringing, but it's very hard to deal with when the white noise isn't running.

Strangely enough, I've never experienced the ringing normally associated with tinnitus. However, it's been more like a rush of wind which never stops.

I noticed it around February of 2009. Good news is that I've found out the cause. When my BP goes very low that's when its loudest. I've never received medications for my low blood pressure even though I've known and the doctors for a long time. Father had low BP, mother was erratically high. So they always try to get a high reading but they don't and that's the end of that visit. LOL!

I've made changes to the salt I use nowadays and a wee sprinkle goes a long way to improve and calm the noises in my ears. Yup, I've a weird one...

I just sprinkle

Mine is mostly due to drinking coffee; when I stop drinking coffee, it goes away after a month, or so.
Hey there, @packleader ... welcome to the forum! I don't think my ringing is from coffee... but I'm not sure I'm willing to give it up for a few weeks or a month to confirm or deny it. 🤭 After 20 or 25 years, I've gotten used to it... with the white noise machine it's not as annoying.
