Tiny goat shunned at birth adopted by 2 Border Collies

I've always liked border collies. I considered getting one, but then reverted back to my old favorite, the golden retriever.
we got one given to use when DD was little.. (Jenny) and my daughter was just 4 years old, and when she played in the garden the dog would nip at her hands and legs...drawing blood

When we spoke to the vet , he said that only people who live and work on farms should have border collies. Their innate instinct is to ''round up'' and that's what she was doing when she was nipping at my daughter running around the garden.

We couldn't keep her so the Vet who had a farm of her own, adopted her..

You were wise to do that, Dave. I love the breed, too, but I've heard owners say it take a whole lot of owner's energy or a herd of sheep to keep them busy and happy.
Yes, border collies are a high energy breed. That's often noted in those dog breed descriptions.

I never noticed that, but I've never seen one around little kids. I had a friend with one of the heeler varieties. It was still young, and he got rid of it. I couldn't stand being around it. Every time I visited him, I would go home with welts and bruises. But many years ago, I babysat a mature Blue Heeler for a long weekend. He never nipped me once and was loving playful. Maybe the most intelligent dog I have ever met. Very adapted to people and eager to please. I don't know if he was typical of the breed.
