Hi, gang. Jay Squires here. Brand new to Senior Forums and wherever I go on the site I see the gentle reminder that I haven't posted yet. So, here I am, warts and all. Be gentle with me if I commit a no-no. I'm not familiar with all the laws and by-laws.

I'm 78 years old. Just a kid to some, I'd reckon. Old man on campus to others. I'm separated from my wife. We'd decided to go our separate ways after 48 years of marriage, so it wasn't a hasty decision. She was at my side all through a bout of congestive heart failure six months ago, so I think the gal still loves me, wouldn't you say? However, each of us lives a more productive and creative life apart from each other. I occupy our house in a medium-sized city socked in by winter fog and summer smog and a heat index that would make a lizard pant. She lives 40 miles away, in a quaint mountain community called Tehachapi. I have the dog. She has the birds. (Am I sounding like a Blake Shelton song?)

What do I do when I'm not taking my blood pressure and popping Coreg (my heart medication)? Well ... I have a blog I'm continually past deadline on. I'm the boss of it, though, and I'm pretty easy on myself. The name of it is Septuagenarian Journey.com. In two years it will have its name changed to the Octogenarian Journey I suppose. I welcome anyone to stop by and say howdy.

Finally, on the first Friday of each month you'll find me at Dagny's Open Mic. You know, over on 23rd and E Street. I'll be the one at the mic with my knees slapping together. I read poetry I whip up for the occasion. It's a delayed grab for my fifteen minutes of fame.

That's pretty much it. Hey! Come on, wake up. I'm finished.

Took a quick look at your blog although I rarely read blogs. I got a kick out of your bit about Twitter:

"But, put me on Twitter and my brain becomes a master of brevity—which is not the same thing as being the master of intelligent brevity. "

Funny! I wish some others felt the same.

Hope you enjoy yourself here.

Hey, Jim ... Arizona IS one beautiful state. What part of it do you live in? I love your dynamic motto: We ARE either growing or dying. And dying is so doggone permanent, I think I'll stick around and cultivate and green myself. How about you?

Jay

Thank you, Ruth. Can you explain what "Senior Member" means? It's obviously not relating to age since anyone can see by your rosy cheeks you are a young Cockatiel. I'm an old buzzard which is why I don't show my picture.
