Today’s oncology appointment

I see the oncologist once a year. It’s a simple appointment. Get a blood test to keep track of my MDS, and make sure I have not flipped over to adult on set leukemia. They take the blood, get results in about, 10 minutes, and I am done. Simple

Today I go to my appointment. ”You are here to see Dr. So and So.” Nope, that’s not my doctor. They set up the appointment with the wrong doctor, the doctor I do not like. 🤦🏻‍♀️ “Oh, well, we can reset the appointment for February, if you’d like.”

No, I would not like. I agree to see the doctor I don’t like. He has a new patient so my appointment is late. Wonderful, I love sitting in a doctor office waiting room being exposed to COVID-19. I finally get called. Get my blood test, ready to see the doctor.

At which point, I am informed, that it will be a video visit with the doctor as he was exposed to Covid-19 and can’t be in the office. Really? Oh good god. I inform them I DO NOT DO VIDEO VISITS. I will call Monday, get my blood tests results. I had them set up, in the computer, that I will not see the doctor I don’t like. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Stupid people.

Try to not allow the frustration to win you over, Aneeda.

Easier said than done... I know.

You must've been mega annoyed! If it was going to be a video visit in the first place, you shouldn't have even had to go in. And since you informed them you don't do video visits...same thing...why make you come in and sit through that?! The first cardiologist I saw in a cardiology group was one I did not like at all. There was just this air about him. I was so glad when he didn't show for one of my appointments and another doctor saw me. He was so down to earth that I liked him immediately. He remained my cardiologist until an arrythmia specialist joined the group.

Aneeda, what is it that you don't like about the doctor, I know some have attitude.

Video visits seem to becoming the norm. Three clinics here in my town and all have a nurse practitioner and video doctor.

When I saw him a few years back, he tested but didn’t do the right test to diagnosis that I had cancer. I have a long term rare cancer, but I felt that a cancer specialist who worked at a cancer center should have been able to diagnose correctly.

A few years later, at my insistence, I was sent back to the same center, different doctor. I kept having episodes of very high white cell counts with no illness. I was sure I had a rare form of leukemia due to the white cell counts.

Saw the new doc. He tested me. Said I didn’t have leukemia. I got up to leave and he said but. BUT? I sat down. You have a very rare red blood cell cancer that has a chance of turning into adult on set leukemia. You have probably has this since you were a teenager.

I have MDS. I get seen once a year at the cancer center, waiting for the leukemia bomb to drop. He was a stupid doctor and I won’t see him again.
