We woke up this morning to some strange noises outside. When we went out, there were a bunch of cattle all over the yard....we counted 42 cows and calves and a couple of huge bulls. I called the county Sheriffs office, and they were able to find a report of a broken fence and missing cattle at a ranch about a mile away. The owner has been rounding them up for the past hour, and it looks like they will soon be back "home". What a hoot! We got a lot of free "fertilizer" this morning, and I will get out later and hose that into the grass, so I don't mow over that stuff.

I may have hidden a calf, especially if it was a heifer. Eat it or sell it, either way, you win. No, I wouldn’t steal a man’s calf, but cleaning up mud pies is not particularly my forte’.

Although we live in the middle of the largest city in Canada, there have been occasional "break outs " of cattle from the old stockyards area in West Toronto. Also a few instances where a livestock truck has been involved in an accident, and the animals have escaped onto the highway. JimB.

I hike a network of 16 miles of trails one mile from my house in a large county park that is mostly forested. The trails were put there by local mountain bikers years ago. My neighbor's cows broke the fence and decided to wander off into the county park, where I heard them mooing and bellowing down in the creek bottom, while I was stepping over cow pies on the trail. Then here comes my neighbor on his 4 wheeler. He felt a little uncomfortable meeting me there and admitted that he knew 4 wheel motor bikes were restricted from the trails. I assured him I wasn't going to breath a word about it to anyone (although here I'm putting it on a public forum), but honestly, I doubt the Park Department would have minded one bit. His cows were already 3/4 of a mile into the place , and were mooing it up splashing around in the creek with little incentive to go back to that boring old pasture. Hell, I would do the same thing with such new found freedom if I were a cow. As far as I was concerned, "Round them dogies up, Cowboy, and get em on down the trail!"

I took my big mower to the shop for repair while hooking up the trailer saw a copperhead snake by the trailer jack, so 1 12 gauge round later no snake to get bit from, love rural life here always something different happening.
I get them in the wood shed when I forget to put out rat and mice poison.
