Today's Stupidity in Driving.

Exited off the freeway. Red light. Wanting to turn right. To the left is the freeway bridge and the bright sun. So I'm waiting for the light to change. Don't want to miss a car coming under the bridge that's blinded by the sun. Green light, turn right into left lane. Idiot behind me guns to pass in right lane (35 MPH zone) cuts in front of me and makes a left turn right in front of me. SUV. What a moron. I. Don't. Get. The. Mentality. I just don't.

You're driving down a road. Three blocks ahead of you is a car waiting to pull out of a side road. There's not another car in sight. When does that person wait to pull out? Right when you get to them, of course, causing you to slam on your brakes.

That was yesterday's idiocy.
Yes! Had this happen. Sitting at the stop sign on one street to turn left onto two way street. Lots of traffic there. Needs traffic lights. But anyway there is a short street directly across. This idiot female is sitting there. Can only go right or left and the way her car is, she's going to turn right. Just sits. AS SOON as I start to turn left when able, she turns her blinker on and starts to move. And yes, my blinker was on.

These are the same people that if they do get a ticket or accident they claim... ignorance...
i know it would be cumbersome and cost a bit but i feel after certain offences/ accidents people should NEED to take the drivers test over.

On the highway a person was behind me riding my bumper......... i was doing about 3 mph over limit but they needed to go around me when on my left side ........ i see they wanted the exit that was about 200 ft away guess they wanted me to slow to let them back in right lane .......
I sped up they went crazy gunned it and crossed over and tried to take exit ended on a nice grass patch by exit high centered ....
hope they did not mind being late to where ever they thought they needed to go. or had snacks for the picnic until tow truck arrived.

Here in Wisconsin they have taken all the bad intersections and turned them into roundabouts. They say it forces drivers to look at each other and better plan their path. Um, no....bad drivers forge ahead and believe everyone else will stop. I also learned these were pushed by the insurance companies because if you are on the circle you are 50 % responsible for any crash.

Back in the good ole' days when we moved to Dallas 17 years ago, drivers were polite and knew where they were going. Since all the influx from other states I see people run red lights regularly and cross several lanes of traffic to make a left when they could just go to the next intersection and make a u-turn.

I still remember when we moved here from Miami where all the drivers are aggressive. I flew around a woman who was going slowly in front of me and ended up at the light next to her. She rolled down her window and said, "Do you feel better now?" I got a good schooling when I moved to Dallas. Too bad it is no longer like that. Stupid driver moves are the norm now.

People cut in front of me like that only to have to stop for traffic ahead, but hey, in their mind it's about the seconds they gain. I too notice people are taking more risks than they used to. Guess I don't care enough to get mad anymore. What's important is everyone stays alive while they get where they are going.

I always drive defensively. There are so many people who are in such a hurry they have no regard for others. If you're doing the speed limit, they'll tailgate and when given the opportunity they'll pass you in a no passing zone. They'd run you over, if they could, to get where they're going. I'm convinced some don't really know how to drive. Pulling into a parking space or when trying to parallel park, it's like they're trying to land the space shuttle. 🚀 🙄

Just so I understand correctly you turned right onto a road w 2 lanes and went directly to the left lane?

The road toll here in Victoria Australia is out of control, You just have to go for half an hour's drive and you will see.
Drivers on the phone.
No indicator when turning.
Not giving way at a roundabout.
Speeding.
Tailgating
Not wearing a seatbelt(Mandatory here)
Freeway driving "Keep left unless overtaking" Good luck with that!
On coming car with lights on High beam

Yesterday a 14 yr old girl driving a stolen car speeding hit a tree and killed another teenager.

Recently
At least 10 people have died and 15 others are in hospital after a wedding bus crashed in an Australian wine region north of Sydney, officials say.
The passengers were returning from a wedding at a winery on Sunday night in the Hunter Valley when their coach overturned near the town of Greta.
Police have charged the 58-year-old bus driver with 10 counts of dangerous driving which resulted in death.
It is no particular gender or age, driving standards (here anyway) have gone out the window!

I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who will risk their lives and yours to gain a few seconds time. I generally find I’m forced to drive 10 mph over posted limits to keep up with traffic in the alleged “slow lane.” Driver courtesy, once taught in the schools and practiced on the roadways, is a long-forgotten virtue. Today’s standard seems to be give no quarter and expect none…

I passed my driving test in the mid 80's. I thought the standard of driving back then of most was significantly better than it is now. I'm not sure when I noticed it all starting to go wrong, In the mid 2000's perhaps, and has been getting slowly worse ever since.

I was 18 when I passed my test; at 22 I trained for and passed the IAM test (Institute of Advanced Motorists); 23 when I took and passed the RoSPA test (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents). I trained using the book called 'Roadcraft, The Police Drivers Manual', and 'The System of Car Control'. I joined the local IAM group for training. Both the two latter tests lasted for about two hours each, and I had to do a running commentary during the tests. Very similar to this, but not at this speeds:

I've never been in the police force, but my examiner was a Police Class One Driver Trainer. He said there may be a time when I might need to break the speed limit during the test. He said he will leave it with me as to when I feel I might need to do that.

I've been known to drive fast where conditions allow. Be aware of what your own body is doing; keep calm and keep your heart rate down. Look at every car on the road as though it has its own body language. The body language of a car is the extension of its driver -- anticipate everything. 'Red Mist' has no place on the road.

Defensive driving and situational awareness are the way forward. It seems that some don't even have self awareness, they therefore have no chance with awareness of others. On the road or anywhere else in life for that matter.

Since OP hasn't been back to clarify the subject of the complaint was clearly annoyed by having to wait for someone not able to properly use their right-of-way and then seemingly being intentionally blocked a 2nd time in which case annoyance turned to anger and the resulting road rage that followed. Sometimes when you order pizza it shows up.

OP seemingly needs a bit more driver training, sun glasses, and some empathy for others whose lives are perhaps busier and full of time pressure.

Or perhaps people allow road rage to enter their own lives. Road rage comes from within. There is a choice to create it within one's self or not. It doesn't come as a gift from someone else. A road rage driver is responsible for their own actions regardless of the situation, and regardless of whether a road rage driver perceives the situation correctly or not.

I agree 100%, but that driver isn't here posting about the interaction and claiming to be blameless in the situation otherwise I'd have made a different set of comments.

Ok, I think I now see your point. And of cause, there are two sides to everything, and as you say the other person isn't here. We will only ever get the perspective of the OP, and maybe further clarity when or if she returns.

I had my daughters in the car one Summer with the windows down when they were very young.

A very elderly woman was in the coffee drive-thru line ahead of me. But I just wanted to simply go around her to the Mall. So I drove in front of her slowly to pass...she leans out the window and it goes like this...

Elderly Woman: "HEY! What the F*** do you think you're doing you little C***S*****?? I was here first!! You little fu**in piece of sh*t!!!"

She cut me off and barraged me with cuss words for a full minute. It actually became hysterical after the first 30 seconds...like something from a movie. I simply said...

"Ma'am. I have young girls in the car with me, please watch your language."

Then the line started moving...she just glared at me and I drove off. My girls remember this incident to this day because it was so shocking to them, I suppose. I still shake my head and get the giggles thinking about that grumpy, foul-mouthed Grandma.
