Toilets plugged....any ideas

No problem. You get a good old fashioned floor mop. Put the head inside a strong plastic sack and use this as a heavy duty plunger. Usually works - just don't lean over it in case you get anything squirting back !!

Yep. Rent a drain cleaner snake. I did that when I owned a house a couple of times. Then I bought one. It depends on how far the blockage is. The most common was toothpicks which wedge across and block everything. By the way when using the plunger try sucking back instead of plunging forward.

Yep, I'd try a toilet auger first and if that doesn't work snake the whole line that runs from your house outside to the main city sewer line.

If you can get a garden hose in the bathroom window that can sometimes be used instead of a snake.

Feed the hose down into the toilet to break up the clog and then have your assistant plumber turn on the water to try and flush the remaining clog.

Make sure you have a rag or paper towels handy to wipe and dry the hose as you remove it from the toilet.

Good luck!

What a way to start the new year! :(

Don't use liquid plumber.
Use a ball force type plunger or a snake. Good luck!

Actually Liquid Plumber has saved me from many plumbing emergencies, but a snake is probably best if the LP doesn't work and you know how to use one.

Yes

Yes, before doing anything else

Takes a few times

But it works

I agree. Sucking back with the plunger is the way to go. You might splatter some nasty water out onto your floor that way, but it beats having a clogged commode or paying a plumber. And like Gary said, don't give up after one or two tries.

Those "old style" plungers seldom work well on newer toilets....that rubber "suction cup" does little other than mix the water in the toilet bowl. The best plungers have a round "cup" that can be placed directly against the round drain in the toilet, and have a means to collect the water, then seal the plunger so that its water can be better forced into the toilet drain.

I have one of these, and it works quite well....and costs only about $5.

Funny, no ones mentioned a shotgun. It’s one of those ‘save water’ toilets and has always been a problem.
Need to go to Lowe’s and pick up some unplug tools.

That's your answer right there.......Swap out the water saver for the increased water tank size.
