Toilets plugged....any ideas

afaik, virtually any commode purchased today will be a "water saver". Maybe you can find one somewhere that still uses 3.5 gallons

A friend of mine that works for a big-box hardware store says the the larger tank toilets are still available. But sometimes requiring special order.

No doubt, but it has been over 20 years since the U.S. government mandated they (manufactured or installed) all be 1.6 gpf or less. Don't know about Canada. Since I live in a desert, water conservation is a real thing out here.
 
If the paper is the source of the clogs consider switching to one of the rapid dissolve/septic tank safe brands.

Probably too late now but I've used cleaning vinegar. It's very strong vinegar usually sold with cleaning products. Pour a cup or two in and let it soak a while. Then flush.

Interesting Bea, I never saw that type in the stores. We use the regular Scott, supposedly 1,000 sheets per roll, but I now question that, also the sheets are much narrower than ever before. :rolleyes:

Walmart sells it in the "RV supplies" section. We buy it for our RV but frankly, it's very flimsy TP.
 
Use separate flushes with those water saver toilets if you get my drift. First the waste by itself, then the paper especially if you have to use a lot of paper.

Some days use a bucket of water poured into the bowl.
 
Now that I think of it there was a kid in our junior high school that flushed a cherry bomb down one of the commodes in the boys room. I think he got suspended for that.

Thanks C'est Moi, I thought it might be from the looks of it, maybe even start to fall apart when used. We use the regular Scott in our camper cassette toilet.

The more I hear about the water saver toilets, the less I want one. Our toilets are the old style, so I use as much paper as I like and there's no problems. If/when we're ready to get a new toilet, we will definitely look into getting the old kind, even if it's special order. Doesn't make sense, you're not saving water by having to flush twice or fill buckets in addition to flushing to use the complete your bathroom visit. I think they used to suggest putting a brick in the water tank to save a bit of water.

Then I guess ....so much for the water saver, although I am going to try the two flush way and see if it helps.
