How to Observe
Celebrate the day by eating buttered corn! Eat it on the cob! Eat it off the cob! Just make sure you use lots of butter! Here are some different ideas of ways to make buttered corn.

There are six different kinds of maize, or corn, and one of them is sweet corn, the kind that is most often celebrated on National Buttered Corn Day. Corn was first domesticated by Indigenous peoples in southern Mexico thousands of years ago, and more corn is now produced around the world than wheat or rice, although not all of it is used for human consumption.

Florida sweet corn is the best in the country. Growing up in Illinois buying it from farm stands one week the corn would be great but the next week it barely OK. Texas corn should be restricted for pigs.
Recipe for corn on the outdoor grill only. 6 ears. Remove the husks, wash place the ear on top of a piece of foil large enough to wrap the ear. Mix a tablespoon of soy sauce and a 1/4 lb. of butter and a 1/2 teaspoon of dried tarragon leaves crumbled. Blend well. Pour over corn ears. Wrap them up and cook on the grill 3 inches from the coals 20-30 minutes turning frequently. If you don't grill place the corn in an oven at 325 F for 20-30 minutes.
