Tooth or no teeth ?

How do other folks handle the dental situation in their own mouth?? For about 3
days I have had teeth in (full dentures) and teeth out. Primarily due to getting a sore
on one gum....and in that 3 days I've come to get annoyed at the old clean them
put glue on them and re-install them. So I am questioning whether I want to put
them in at all .......It isn't like anyone see's me very often, once every 2 weeks my
home care lady to clean the house is here, twice a week the little kid who acts
as my mailboy see's me, otherwise it is delivery folks that mite see me....so why
am I defensive?? Cause it doesn't looke so nice!!! The type of food I eat would
not bother me being toothless. So what do you do?! :D:giggle::devilish:

I hate dentures, I have bone disease so I can't do implants which I sure wish I could.
I equate the feeling of dentures with taking a plastic tub that frosting comes in and shoving it in your mouth.
Your mouth is so insensitive to touch, texture ad so hard to remove food stuck on them .
I will use mine when people come over, out in public, all that social stuff but it's like a bra for a woman, when I am home
off they go. My mother was such a vain woman she even slept with hers in...how did she stand that?
hawk, life is short, be comfortable and save the wear and tear on the dentures as a plus.

I have full dentures and only take them out to clean them.

I do get occasional cuts in my gums as my mouth changes but the pain and inconvenience only lasts a few days. A rinse with salt water three or four times a day helps.

I don’t ever want to be without my teeth.

I’ve gone for weeks without them while new ones were being made or old ones were being repaired and I was miserable trying to eat.

As far as my looks, it doesn’t really concern me.

What I notice looking at your pic are straight bright teeth and a beautiful smile. It wouldn't matter to me at all if they are dentures or not.

My natural teeth in contrast are crooked, yellowish and I have receding gums, some missing molars and several fillings.

At the moment one incisor is slowly coming out by itself and I can't even bite with it because of the pain.

I've decided to get full dentures this fall. Implants are no option for me too due to bone loss.

Your comparison of dentures with a bra is interesting. I got prescribed spironolactone because of my high blood pressure 25 years ago at age 40 and started to develop breasts soon after.

Three years later I had a size 40B and my female family doctor told me that I had two options, either gynecomastia surgery or wearing some kind of support.

Surgery was no option, since I've had severe problems after surgery for a groin hernia a short time before.

After some months with a binder, which was so uncomfortable and hot during summer I tried a bra on the advice of my wife.

Since that time I've worn bras for more than two decades everyday from morning to night. Meanwhile my size is 40C and still growing.

I've read that 80 per cent of the women wear the wrong bra size. Perhaps bras were never uncomfortable for me because I got fittings by experienced staff of lingerie shops from the beginning.

If my upcoming dentures have such an excellent fit as my bras I'll be happy. But I know that this won't happen before I get my permanent dentures.

Thus my opinion is: Better beautiful dentures than bad natural teeth.

I use Seabond. You just trim them to fit your denture and moisten them and stick them in the plate. Otherwise I'd be back on pureed food part of the time. LOL!

I hate my dentures. I rarely wear the bottom ones ever, since you can't really tell. Interesting about the bra comparison: when I learned I had to get dentures I kept saying, I'm uncomfortable WITH a bra and uncomfortable WITHOUT one, so this is going to be a real drag. And it is. When the top dentures are out I look so awful I can't stand to look in the mirror. TG I can tolerate the top one and wear it all the time except to sleep.

No teeth left to mention, jawbone compromised by radiation therapy, part of my upper palate missing from related surgery.

So implants and dentures are not even an option. Just creative with my food preperation and making the best of it. It could be much worse, during radiation thereapy I had to eat through a stomach tube.

The bra thing is very interesting, my dying to remove it is due to drying skin as we age, I have tried so many things but my back itches like mad
against a bra strap so I tried sports bras, that was worse as it covers more area. No bug bite just itchy dry skin. I am active outside a lot so I maybe am sweating the lotions off so they don't help much. I never remember to speak with my Doc about this stuff, I need to.

At last weather was cool enough for me to tackle the tall grass around the peony bushes.
Weed whacker had new cord & tank full of gas.

Hubby was mowing the lawn while I chopped away at weeds & grass.

He was going to mow. over my pile of grasses/ weeds.
I decided to haul them down to burn pit for burning later,,,, too many weed seeds to spread on the lawn.

This afternoon while he was moving equipment, / junk from one garage to another , I did a bit of trimming on flowering bushes.
Removed a limb off a peach tree with my hand saw.
Dragging that limb over to brush pile tired me out!

Started to catch up posts here & fell asleep. 😴🙃

Do what you feel comfortable with @hawkdon.

My mother still has nearly all her teeth and I am hoping that, if I live to be her age, I will still have mine. I don't think I would like wearing dentures so, I'd probably look for alternatives but, if it had to be dentures then, I think I would be too vain not to wear them!

I have full snap in dentures. 8 pin implants to snap onto. 4 top 4 bottom.
I only wear the dentures when I eat or when I go out in public.
Snap in, pop out. Easy peasy.

Back in 2021 I had the last 11 natural teeth pulled and the implants put in ... all on the same day and one chair sitting.
May have been the worst pain I've ever experienced. Well, the worst part was cutting back the upper gums to reveal bone to attach the implants. Felt like he was cutting into the roof of my mouth. It hurt. He also had to do a bone graft in one area on the bottom.

The recovery time from the oral surgery was prolonged and of course, with no teeth. I have a Vitamix blender and just pureed all my food.

Bonus was during that time in 2021 with no teeth for weeks while my gums healed, the pandemic protocol demanded masks while in public. No one ever knew the oral issues I was going through or questioned why I was wearing a mask.

I had teeth issues my entire life. Started going to the dentist with problems when I was 2. I do not miss my natural teeth for a minute. Glad I had them while I did but they sure were a lot of trouble and often painful. At one point I had virtually all crowns. Then went through partials. Had spent tons of money on my teeth to ultimately lose them all. So much better now and one less thing to worry about.

Put your teeth in. It's not about the horrors of wearing dentures, it is about yourself respect. It's about letting yourself go.

I think self respect is more about looking after yourself than your appearance. If dentures are so uncomfortable and make life harder and less pleasant,, then a fair decision not to wear them.

Me personally- I have nearly all my own teeth but a partial denture covering 2 front teeth. It is quite comfortable t o wear and I wear it all the time, including at night

Have you tried a bra with about 80 to 90 per cent cotton and the rest elasthane? And yes, the color can be a problem too. For this reason I prefer white and skin and have never had any issues.
Some people have problems with many detergents. A hypo allergenic detergent might help in this case. We use it.
My wife gets a dry and itchy skin with most shower lotions. This could be another reason.
You're right, you should ask your doc and especially a dermatologist.

I love my dentures! I had a great denturist until he retired, my dentures fit perfectly from day one.Never needed any adjustments at all. Makes me happy because I absolutely hate dentists! I never have to see another dentist again in my lifetime!
You belong to the very few and lucky people who have not even initial problems with dentures.
But often it gets better with the permanent dentures even for the not so lucky ones.
Unfortunately not all dentists are trained enough in the field of dentures.

I have 3 crowns but luckily the rest of them are holding up. There are 3 more that the dentist said were "crazed" and urgently needed crowning. I declined. That was 8 years ago and they're holding just fine.

After a couple of years, he just shut up about them....LOL.

I've tried professional bleaching and at-home bleaching, but my teeth are what they call in the business "senior beige"....yep, that's a real term when they were ordering my crowns. Bleaching just doesn't work. I guess as long as they don't turn "senior black", I'll just have to grin and bear it.....

I have a similar story, but mine began at 12 rather than 2, with impacted baby teeth that had to be cut and coaxed down with braces (at 15 wearing braces, I never laughed without covering my hideous mouth, in those days hardly anyone wore braces). After that I lost teeth to root canals, ended up with bridges that separated, spent money I really did not have, endured pain and misery. Was 65 when I chucked the whole thing for full dentures. Hate them too, but happy I no longer have to live in a dentist's chair!

Never heard of denturists! Is this a Canadian thing?
US dentists send most denture work out to a denturist, but I don't know if denturists have walkin offices that take patients, and I don't know if people's dentists can refer them directly to a denturist. You can ask your dentist about that.

All that said, I took my mom to a dentist who was also a denturist. He used a tiny, oddly shaped ruler to measure every little nook and cranny in her mouth (while she was not wearing her dentures), and took xrays, of course.

Her new teeth cost me about $6K, but they were beautiful and they fit perfectly. According to the dentist/denturist, the teeth he made my mom were the teeth she would have had if she hadn't lost them all when she was a teenager (farming accident). None of the dentures she'd worn up to that point looked like those new ones...the teeth were shaped differently and were a different size, etc. The ones that guy made looked so natural and pretty, and even her lips looked a bit different...better. Much better.

Worth the 6K, imo.
