Toothpaste

I just bought a new tube of Colgate Total. I've been saving up for awhile and now its mine, all mine.

The box said "new flavor" but it tastes like any other peppermint paste I've ever used, The box also says "new ingredient" but nowhere on the box did it enumerate what ingredient was new.

I am very disappointed. Somehow when you make a major purchase like this you sorta expect it to be special.

Yeah, I know what you mean--they could do better.

I usually use some formulation of Crest or Colgate that advertises as "complete care." My dentist used to push a toothpaste on me that was available by prescription only, super high in fluoride, etc. At $15 a tube, I only tried one tube of it because every neuron in my brain rebelled at paying that much for a small tube of toothpaste. For $15 I can buy a nice pizza, after all, and be happy with the purchase...

In the area of the strange, my father used to use a tooth paste that was actually a powder that came in a can. You dampened your toothbrush, dipped it in the dry powder, and brushed your teeth with that. It was Dr. Lyon's Tooth Powder, which I don't think is sold anymore. Stranger still was my mother, who brushed her teeth with salt! It mustn't have worked too well as she wound up with dentures... 🙀

My grandmother always used this too. I was just thinking about it recently and wondered if they still sell it. If anyone,I would think Vermont Country Store might.
My BIL`s dad always brushed with-get ready for this-Ajax Cleanser! He had the most beautiful teeth you`ve ever seen. Crazy.

I can't tolerate the taste of the overly strong mint toothpastes and those seem to be what every brand is pushing. I like cinnamon flavored paste and have also used a vanilla flavored one that I like. I recently tried a paste called Smart Mouth which is a little minty but not overwhelming. You use it with their mouthwash and they guarantee no bad breath for 24 hours. It does make my mouth feel clean and fresh.

Still using Sensodyne, hubby is still using Aquafresh. Just went to dentist on Friday, checkup was good, little plaque or tartar, but I need a filling below an old crown in the back because my root is showing due to receding gums. I have two teeth with large fillings that I got decades ago, they are beginning to crack along with the tooth involved. Will be getting the filling and two crowns recommended for the large filling teeth.

I've always had bad teeth even though my mother had little sweets in the house and wouldn't let us drink sweet sodas. Now that I'm old, my gums are not that healthy either. I honestly think that brand of toothpaste is of little value, no new miracle pastes these days, just advertising hype, IMO.

I think what matters most is brushing at least twice a day, once early in the morning after waking up when there's the most bacteria in your mouth. Using an electric brush is good too, I use both. Although I never liked the idea of Listerine rinse due to the alcohol, I'm using it now and it seems to be the best to kill germs that cause gum deterioration. Brushing or rinsing with coconut oil is of value, because it is anti-bacterial and natural.

I've used various tooth pastes and washes from health food stores over the years, and I can't say that any of them are superior when it comes to tooth and gum health, especially in seniors.

I like the natural products So,In the store, right by the Tom's toothpaste, was a new one called "HELLO!". Bought it and every morning I talk back to it. Tell it "Good morning!" Yes, I'm goofier than a pet coon. But, it starts off my day in a happy mood!

Brushing after every meal is something we seldom do if we are working because of the lunchtime meal. Crest Advanced Pro Health rinse after brushing. Getting at the gum line is critical and flossing. The brand of paste is not important to me

My hubby is allergic to certain preservatives ,not in food but most everything else. Took forever to figure it out, anyway, Colgate is the only toothpaste on the market without preservatives.

I worked taking care of a dentists wife a few years back and discovered he used a generic brand in his own home.

If it wasn't for my hubby's problem I'd use that also.

It depends on what the store I go to has, or if I find something online. My current toothpaste is the one I usually use- Colgate. But I'm not against trying something new, or getting something different if it's on sale. My #1 favorite has always been red-gel Close-Up, but it's hard to find these days.
