Toronto Mayor

Rob Ford says he's not leaving office....never mind footage of crack smoking, drunken screaming rampages, writing a reference for a known drug dealer on City letterhead, and the list goes on and on. On top of all that, he's an A-H, belligerent as can be, as most addicts are when backed in a corner.

I was so happy to read there is a motion that calls on the mayor to take a leave of absence, but he has given no sign he intends to do -- says he's not going anywhere!

What do you think? Should he be forced out of office? Especially interested to hear what our Canadian friends have to say.

I had to laugh when I heard him say that he wasn't a crack addict, that he only smoked it when he was in a drunken stupor. :cheers1: I don't know much about him or the real story, but if he was doing anything inappropriate while on the job, then he should be booted out...just like any employee would be. He did seem to have a cocky tone about him, not apologetic at all.

He's refusing to step down. I don't know what's up with all these low moral politicians that become so cocky and defiant when caught at their dirty deeds. They should be hiding their heads in shame at the things they are caught doing, and go quietly away.

Is it just me? I am more concern that he said he did it one time while in a drunken stupor. I have a feeling that the drunken stupor may be more important then the smoking crack. It could explain all the other things he is accused of doing.

He has been doing a decent job as the mayor, but the fact that he waited so very long to come forward with his confession, he can't be trusted! he should have confessed last May! Or, at least when he was found out! When the evidence was posted, he should have come forward and confessed, instead of lying/ denying it! Leaves one to wonder what is really going on.....and, is he still smoking crack?? How do we really know for sure.....I feel he should step down as mayor, this would be the decent thing to do now...due to circumstances..

Ah Rob Ford! Keeping the TV news entertaining if nothing else. When the media first said they saw a video of him smoking, he called them "maggots" and a whole host of other names. He denied everything. Now he says he did smoke but was drunk at the time. That will also be his excuse when the rest of the saga comes to light.

As Dee64 said, by all accounts he is a decent mayor but it is the antics that he does when not at city hall that detracts from his success. Drunk and asked to leave public events more than once.

Now.... the whole situation is just very sad. The man obviously needs help and until he gets it, the city of Toronto has become fodder for the late night comedians. IMO, he should either resign completely or at the very least, take a good amount of time off to get the help he needs. The thing is that he doesn't believe he needs help. His "friends" are questionable at best and some are in jail and one dead - I can't help but wonder if the Ford had anything to do with that...... There is a lot more that has not come out yet, so stay tuned.

Heard Dr. Drew last night saying exactly the same thing, that the drunken stupors he readily admits to are as serious as the crack. Oh, they interviewed his sister who says he is absolutely NOT an addict, that he only goes on drunken binges every 6 wks or so....she herself is in recovery for alcohol. His wife agreed "no way," just over drinks sometimes. What a delightfully charming and functional family they appear to be! LOL

They said they won't kick him out unless he breaks the law. He can smoke crack or get drunk now and then without being an addict...but his overall personality seems to leave a lot to be desired. Hard to trust somebody like him, whether in politics or not.

Ha! SeaBreeze, I think the people expressing such a foolish statement on this are on crack themselves.

I've heard so many times how it's like heroin, hooks you from the beginning. Luckily most of us don't know anyone to ask firsthand, but wondering how many people do crack that aren't addicts, but "only when they're in a drunken stupor?" That is the most pathetic excuse I've ever heard. I've seen his drunken rages on video, along with hearing several professionals say this, the man desperately needs to be in rehab. He is one HUGE hot mess!

This is a pretty good short article on the results of crack cocaine addiction It did say that usually there is a two step problem of drugs and alcohol involved.

SeaBreeze...who said they wouldn't kick him out unless he broke the law...and isn't being in possession of and using an illegal drug breaking the law already? Don't understand the crazy reasoning behind this. Do the people really want important issues and policies that may affect their lives made by a substance abuser who obviously feels no moral obligation to his position or the people who entrusted him with the position.

I have a really hard time with the liassez faire attitude of people these days...there is no moral compass anymore...anything goes...until it goes to hell.

Well, I thought it would get more detailed, and so it has. They can't kick him out of office because he is an elected official. I believe they are thinking about what kind of charges they can bring on him but so far, that hasn't been announced. He was asked yesterday if he ever bought illegal drugs while he was mayor and he said yes. Later, he said "they weren't for me, I bought them for someone else". Now.... that sounds like pushing to me which is worse that buying them for himself.

Yesterday, the city council was aired all day on TV and it got pretty heated at times. This morning, while entering city hall, he told reporters who he was suing for lying including a former staffer who told police that the mayor had said some very rude things to her. His response was " I never told ******* that I wanted to eat her pu**y, I have enough to eat at home".

I thought I would fall down to the floor laughing. This man is something else, has no sense of right or wrong and for mayor of such a huge city, has no sense of decently or even what to say while in front of the cameras.

Having said all of that, it sure makes for some pretty good (or sad) TV, you couldn't write a soap opera with any more turns and twists.

It's beyond ridiculous! Who among us don't buy illegal drugs for others?

Early on someone posted...."there's much more." And so there is, just as we knew there would be....hookers! Say not! This man may be beyond help and his attitude is so far from any level of remorse, not sure there is any way he can get there.

Recent video shows more bazaar behavior by Rob Ford at a council meeting. He was rudely mimicking a speaker then got up and started running around the room and knocked over a council woman. This man is ill and needs to be removed from office and gotten into treatment.

Again I apologize for my comment on the other thread, I just couldn't help myself. I guess I am not the only one with self-control problems.

His antics at the council meeting should the last straw. This guy has been given far too much leeway. He needs to be put down and put down hard.

To me, it is frightening that someone who is obviously very disturbed is still Mayor of a major city. However, what concerns me even more is the rest of the people on Toronto's city council! After this behavior they voted to ask him to withdraw. I don't care if it is self- inflicted at this point he is very disturbed and out of control. In my state you can put someone under observation and assessment for 72 hours, without their permission. Something needs to be done immediately.

I know there's another thread somewhere on the forum about Rob Ford. Such a sad legacy he has left behind. No matter what he did that was good for the city, people will remember his drug use. I feel for his children. May he rest in peace.
