Our nervous systems are on overload as we watch the Russia/Ukraine invasion.
Deep meditation is more important now as the world is in chaos.

Have done it regularly for 50 years! Can't tell you how many times I've been distressed over something in my daily world, said my prayers, gone into meditation... came out of meditation totally relaxed and feeling born anew. Nothing better in my book of total relaxation practices.

If I have a problem, have taken that into meditation to seek guidance also.
 

I am not for or against any kind of meditation. I think it makes sense. However, if you ask me turning off the TV and turning off the news sometimes would help your nervous system a lot too. Starring all day at smartphones is gotta be a real killer when it comes to being calm and relaxed. I have seen these news places that say they will send news to your email every morning. I would never get that.

Besides, meditation and shutting off the news, I would strongly suggest reading a nice book or going for a healthy walk. You would be surprised how good you will feel about people, the world and your life when you hear those wonderful birds singing outside in the spring time as they are nesting. Also, walk in the park, look at and smell the flowers. Life can be good but you are not going to find it by being a slave to technology.

Stop hiding in your room, under the bed or in your closet. This is sure to stress you out. Phone up a friend or go for coffee and just share your life experiences. We are all social animals and we need others in our lives. Technology is OK but don't get married to it or you will be disappointed and on your dying day you might just think that somehow in your life you have "missed the boat of living."

Oh! Look up transcendental deep meditation as taught by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
No, I think it is different as it is a one time sacred ceremony with an instructor where you receive instruction and
a mantra designated for you personally.
I can sit for a second, think my mantra and am pulled in an instant into bliss. My whole body, in one second, melts into joy.
I guess you can describe it as a dipping into the Being and bringing this bliss out into the world.
It's a feeling of sacredness. It's a restful alertness and when you come out of the meditation, all surroundings and yourself are in harmony.

Yes! If you want instruction near you, call the Maharishi International University in Fairfield Iowa at 641-472-1110.
You don't have to go to the University to get the benefits. it's a one-time initiation.
 
Hi! This is an old, old thread but I wanted to bring it up again to tell some of the effects of TM because it is truly SO BLISSFUL!
I know there are many more up-to-date results of tests on this technique but these are some old physiological results I ran across.

@Shalimar, I sent you a question (for members on the forum) but I guess you didn't get it.
You said once you were initiated into the TM technique. I wanted to know if you were in the
TM-Sidhi program or did you ever get into the TM flying?
I'm meditating regularly now and the BLISS is unbelievable!
Are you still practicing this?
 
Meditation certainly beats just sitting around doing nothing.
