Trash service put an item back in my bin

Our weekly trash pick up requires everything to be bagged and closed

We get a separate bin for recyclables
they don't require bags, just clean stuff

Twenty bucks a month

You should have a pamphlet of instructions from your waste management company
If you don't have one, go online to get it
Read it
same here...we have 3 wheelie bins 240 litres ( 52 gallons)... 2 are for recyclables.. one for grass etc.. and the other for packaging and clean cans... we pay £40 per year to have the garden waste taken.. and the other 2 are paid for out of our council tax which used to be called rates..

It wasn't IN the house. I was using it for a plant stand during the summer on the porch, then I thought it wasn't much good with that rusty hole in it, so I removed it and put it in the trash bin. At the old house, it was in the garage and they here it was in the tool shed for a while.
It is possible that they would require a metal item to go with aluminum and steel in the Recyclable bin.

I put the shelf in a trash bag and left it in the bin. They collected today and it's still there. I had contacted the trash service last week through their Web site and they never responded.

You said earlier that you're supposed to wait until May to dispose of this through the trash company. Seems like the they're wise to your attempts to slide this past them. Why not stash that shelf somewhere until the appropriate time to dispose of it - or drive it to the dump yourself, assuming that's an option?

I finally called them and explained the situation. They said that is considered a "bulk item" which they don't take. It would have to be picked up separately. I don't understand why it can't just be considered trash.

It is trash
But it's BIG trash ('Bulk')

Bust it up or saw it into small pieces, put them in a bag and into the can.

My trash company also has strict rules so when my husband died in October, I had a lot of his trap shooting supplies that I needed to get rid of. I sold his gun, reloader, wads, primers, etc. but he had a lot of empty plastic shot gun shells that he used to reload. He also had a ton of empty cartridge cardboard boxes that he'd put his reloaded shells in. You guys probably know what I'm talking about.

I emailed my trash company and asked if any of it could be put in the trash. They got right back to me and said it would be considered trash and I could bag it up in small doses for pickup. Simple. I didn't want to "sneek" stuff in that wasn't allowed.
