We had freezing mist and drizzle for about ten hours yesterday and when I went out a few minutes ago I tried the doors on my thick ice covered pickup and they are frozen solidly shut.....not sure yet on how I'm going to get the doors open to start the engine and get the heat and defroster running but I'm thinking maybe a little de-icer sprayed around the doors a time or two might do the trick, we'll see.

Well, sir, if this ain't tongue in cheek......I usually don't recommend this, but since you have frozen water (ice) anyway, a bit of hot water on the latch and jamb, and a hair dryer around edge near the window will getcha in

...I've used torches, but distance is critical

I got lucky !

I used the de-icer around the doors twice and then smacked all the way around the doors pretty hard with my gloved hand and the drivers door reluctantly opened......I've now got the defroster running full blast and I figure in about ten minutes or so the windows should be soft enough to scrape

We've got another freezing rain system moving in both Saturday (60%) and Sunday (80%) so it appears today was just a practice run for what's coming again.

For those that may have forgotten my feelings.........

Yuk Ike! Really yuk!!!! I hate ice!!! I can only imagine what your driveway and walkways are like . . .

:what:

Light fluffy snow is fine for a while, but ice, frozen slush, wet snow ... DOUBLE YUK!!

While ice can be purty.... it sure is hard on trees and stuff. :(:what:

Absolutely! We had an ice storm a year or two ago, and lost so many trees in our neighbourhood and around the city .. lots of power outages too. As you, say, it can look pretty, but the damage is irreversible.

I agree with Ike......and I really, really wish I would have moved to a warmer climate back when i first retired. Although, a friend of mine that lives in Arizona reminds me that their season of confinement [in the AC] is just as bad??

I'm in NM with a similar climate to Arizona, and I hate the godawful summer heat here.

When anyone asks me how I can stand the Florida heat and humidity, I remind them that I've never had to shovel 24 inches of heat and humidity out of my driveway, nor have I had to chip an inch of heat and humidity off my windshield or slipped on a sidewalk covered with.....you guessed it.....heat and humidity and busted my tailbone. It's a fair trade-off, in my humble opinion.

I appreciate the pictures. Reminds me of why part of retirement planning included moving from Penna. to the sunny southwest. My vehicles were garage kept, when it snowed my neighbor had a small dozer he plowed our driveway for us.

Wow, that is some photo!

And to think people ask why I live in the San Francisco Bay Area......

57 degrees today, and the sun keeps peeking out of the rain clouds periodically (no, I don't live anywhere near where the fires/floods happen, thank goodness).

Ike, I think that's the first time I've ever seen a photo that made me think the vehicle must be shivering!

When it's cold, you can layer up your clothes. When it's hot and humid, you can only take off so much. I really missed the 4 seasons when I lived in Australia, especially snow.
