True Crime Shows On TV

I read an article in a magazine in the dentist’s office a few weeks ago that still sticks in my mind. The article stated that true crime shows are ranked number one as the most watched among viewers. The article went on to state that people seem to have become infatuated with murder mysteries. When viewers were surveyed by one of the polling companies, they were asked what was their main reason for watching crime shows. After they read all the answers that came back, the consensus was that most people watch true crime shows because they enjoy seeing the bad people “get what’s coming to them.”

The real truth of the matter is that it doesn’t “always” happen. Many times, although the the bad people are arrested, with today’s courts being backed up with cases and prisons being over-populated with prisoners while also being under-staffed, Prosecutors are forced to cut deals and Governors are pressured to make early releases.

Here in Pennsylvania, our life sentence is supposed to be just that; life w/o parole. However, I have known a few prisoners to get early release due to over-crowding, and one was released because he had a terminal illness and was in his last days. But, truthfully, we do stick by the line, “life means life.”

What other states programs are, I will not comment because what I have been told by other people is hearsay.
