True - My mom always preferred gas and I had a gas stove until I bought my new house which has an electric range. One advantage of gas is you can cook if there's a power outage if you have a way of manually igniting the burners. Some older stoves had pilot lights, but I imagine modern stoves are electronically ignited.

@debodun yes Gas stoves have been electronically ignited for many years now.. altho' if you have a power cut you'd have to use a match to light the stove . I've always had gas cookers, in preference to electric for the very reason you state ..
