I find the whole Donald Trump show to be amusing, in that it appears to me the Republican's are using him and his statements as sort of a trial balloon, watching and measuring the Public's responses and gauging what the GOP might incorporate into their platform, and what simply won't cut the mustard.
Very shrewd use of marketing research, much better than endangering any of their real candidates. Later, after Trump finishes his mission and steps off stage, the rest of the GOP pack can focus on concepts that can actually attract votes from the electorate as a whole.
With careful planning, the GOP can avoid those nasty little last minute faux pas that are such deal breakers for the election:
