Trying To Decide Which Item to Get from Amazon.

You have never had a cat. The bolded sentence above proves it. Nothing stops a cat if it wants something.
I had both, usually 2 cats and one dog at a time.

I did have a cat, a himalayan growing up. I was allergic to cats so I had to go once a week to get a shot. I really loved that cat because I really hated needles. Still do hate it anytime I have to have a shot or have blood drawn.

My cat was never any trouble, but he did wind up in unexpected places. One time my Mom was doing laundry, she opened the dryer door to see if the towels were done. She must have looked away, that silly cat went in the dryer to enjoy the warm towels. Mom closed the door, restarted the dryer, he got a few whirls around until we found out where the noise was coming from!! LOL

Another inexpensive way to make a puzzle holder maybe:

Find one of these at a yard sale or thrift shop, I bought this one new for about $8.00 from amazon since I can't get around to the sales or shops anymore; I bet it'd be cheaper than that if you could find it at a thrift shop:

And then glue some of that "gripper" shelf liner stuff to it? That one I bought is 14 by 18 inches.

You are right about that! My last two cats, I could just cover with some cardboard or even magazines. I still don't know if those two were extra good or my two now are extra bad! :D 😻😻 I haven't done a puzzle since I got them 11 1/2 years ago so I'm going to try.

Juniper would have a blast with those little pieces of toy. You should have seen her go after her new 'shard toy' when I broke a light bulb! Of course she got scooped up, put in the bedroom until all was cleaned up. But she was on those shards immediately.

This is a fantastic idea! I was actually looking around at Hobby Lobby yesterday for something I could do a puzzle on like a hard paint board or something. Then I found that roll up at Walmart but it wouldn't be a bad idea to have more than one item to do puzzles on. And right now I don't want to do larger than 500 pieces. If I ever have an extra room I can close off and a table, I'd do a bigger one. Thanks for the idea.

I just read the reviews on this.. and it says it attracts cat hair like no-ones' business
Yes I read some of those reviews. If I work on a puzzle, I'll do it in the morning when the cats usually sleep. If I get my sewing machine out, that's also when I do sewing. They usually sleep through the morning when I'm home after being awake earlier.

I get this catalog in the mail called "Bits and Pieces", full of crossword puzzles www.bitsandpieces.com 513-354-7909
Anyway, they have several "puzzle plateaus" to do puzzles on. If I did puzzles, I'd sure get their catalog.
Also, I was thinking. I would go to a lumber yard and get a piece of thin mahogany and cut it (or have it cut) to fit over the puzzle.
and, Can it slip under the bed?
Just a thought.
I think this is a good idea also and had thought about it.

true..it's been going on for a long time. One of our consumer TV programmes delved into it and chose just a few items at Random with thousands of good reviews.. and were able to prove that all the reviews had been stolen from other genuinely good items for sale on Amazon .. and that the items when it was broken down.. had one or 2.. or in some cases NO good reviews.. and in fact they the sellers.. had hidden the bad reviews.. It was a Big eye opener..
Holly, I've noticed some reviews on Amazon where the item being talked about in the review CLEARLY doesn't match the item. Of course people can make an error and review the wrong product but your post is now making me wonder about false reviews. Really have to be cautious.

There is another option. You could go to a Lowes store & buy this,

48-in x 96-in Smooth Brown Wall Panel
Item #15483

Model #SS1254825

$14.98
Genuine hardboard

Smooth working surface

Inherent durability resists buckling and warping
https://www.lowes.com/pd/47-75-in-x-7-98-ft-Smooth-Brown-Wall-Panel/3014304

Have it custom cut to the size of what you are looking at on amazon. You would have more than one for a lot less. If you really liked the puzzle you could spray it with lacquer to bind it together. Lowes usually will make two cuts for free.

that's one of the clues given in the consumer report.. when it's obvious that the item being dicussed is not the one that's being sold, you can almost certainly know that all the reviews were taken from someone else product

Drive myself nuts. I'm looking at jigsaw puzzle boards. Found the one I thought I wanted, but then checked the measurements. Too big for my small table and won't slide under either my coffee table (glass with a low bottom shelf) or another cabinet. I can't emphasize enough how I need to keep this away from my tabby when not in use. She notices and gets into everything.

I don't know if others are as indecisive as I am. I read reviews and they can be all over the place. This is the smaller board I found. This really is one of the only small boards I found. Most are too big.

Amazon.com: Bits and Pieces - Easy-Move Jigsaw Puzzle Pad - Medium 21" x 29" - Holds up to a 1000 Piece Puzzle - Lightweight Puzzle Storage System : Toys & Games

Anyone else as indecisive as I am?
ooh... maybe something like this!

i found it by googling roll-up puzzle mat... this was on walmart web site.

i have a tortoise shell that's trying to kill me (not really) and absolutely positively MUST touch everything... i understand! you'd find puzzle pieces from one end of the room (or your entire house) to the other, right!?

@wcwbf I found a roll up puzzle mat at Walmart for 7 dollars which I thought was a good deal. I haven't tried it yet. I'm going to also keep looking for something solid. I've found suggestions online for a dry erase board and even a cork bulletin board that others have used.

The mat picture you posted looks like better quality than what I got. Thank you.

I didn't calculate when I posted but given the dimensions of the one on Amazon you should be able to get 6 boards out of one 4x8 board. Or $2.49 a surface to put your puzzle on. Since cats are a concern you could use one & cover the work in progress with another one.

Although it says smooth working surface the back side typically has a unfinished surface that would keep puzzle pieces from sliding.

To add a data point. I literally just got this one, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B56JRZ44, for my wife. It's definately bigger than what you are looking for, but as a representative of the brand, it seems pretty good. It can be hard working off of reviews - some positives and then the one negative that really makes you pause. The main negative of this one was that it is unfinished wood - and it is. But the one we got is smooth all around the edges, the felt surface is nice and the storage drawers work as expected with the fairly strong magnets to hold them closed and the tilt mechanism works well.

The main thing is that she loves being able to tilt it up. Working on a flat surface (our huge kitchen island) can be a literal pain in the neck.

I hope this isn't too much off topic but does anyone have a favorite place to buy jigsaw puzzles from? (Our local library used to have a puzzle swap, along with a huge puzzle to patrons to work on but Covid put an end to that.)
