Trying to fix my Laptop

For some time now, my laptop would stop recognising the USB ports. Getting them going meant resetting the BIOS settings. It then occurred to me that the BIOS might have it's own battery to keep it 'live'. Looking up the documents, I found that it was a common 'coin' cell and I had a new one in my spares box.
Fitting it was easier than the manual suggested and the Laptop works, OK. I just have to wait and see if the ports stay active.

One winter in AZ my battery went south. I didn't want to mess with it so I removed the battery completely & run it for 5 months without a battery. It can't be installed & run it but it runs plugged in fine without it. Trouble you can run into is if i comes unplugged all bets are off & you have no power. Lose what you're working on & everything since the last save. Battery issues can create a host of problems & running without is only a temporary fix. Most replacement batteries are only $10-15, so it's a cheap fix.

Check to see if there is a BIOS and firmware update. Check the manufacturer website for the updates.
