Turkey Vultures Annual Migration

The annual migration of Turkey Vultures from Canada to Mexico's warmer climate has begun.

About 60 of them arrived yesterday for a short stopover rest, some in our next door neighbor's pine tree. They stop here every year.

They are carrion-eating scavengers, with wingspans from 5 to 6 feet.

I think we have them in Jersey also but don't know if they are the same ones. I never heard of anyone calling them turkey vultures. The ones we have here have an ugly red head with no feathers and they are quite large. They do a great job of cleaning up after a road kill. It's a good thing because the road dept. is slow at picking them up. Some people refer to them as buzzards. I wonder if they are the same.
