Turnips

At yesterday's Bible study, one of the attendees brough huge boxes of acorn and butternut squash and turnips. I took several acorn and butternut squash. Also some of the turnips. The turnips were covered in mud, so I filled a bucket with water and let them soak an hour and much of the muck came off. Filled the bucket again and let them soak again overnight. Some of those turnips are probably 5 or 6 inches in diameter. I haven't had them in a while so I was looking for recipes online. Most are for boiling or roasting - should I bake or boil them considering their size? Do turnips get tough when they are large?

What a generous lady, Deb. Everything has become expensive lately. Squash were $1.97/lb at Walmart. I haven’t checked out turnip yet.

For turnip, boil in salted water. Mash, add butter, about a teaspoon of brown sugar to cut the bitter taste and S&P if needed. I don’t even add the butter until at the table. DH doesn’t like butter.
