I understand the here one day, gone the next.
It is the 2 month anniversary today for me. I still have trouble believing he's not coming back.

My mother died when I was 11 and that's when I learned the lesson that you can't take anyone for granted. So when my wife died suddenly in 2009, I was prepared and not surprised.

But I found the adjustment to life without a partner after 25 years VERY difficult.

I did learn first hand what my father was going through when his wife died.
