Yes, they carved their initials into it and will be heavily fined. This made me wonder if any of you had ever done such a thing. Me? I signed into the Alamo as Elvis in my visit there many years ago, but it was only in the guest book. Care to 'fess up?

The Colesseum is a precious ancient treasure and IMO these women should do some time, not just pay a fine. I'm ashamed that it was Americans who did this.

IDIOTS, make that IGNORANT idiots. Where is the appreciation for history. I guess they don't know what history is. These California women were 21 and 25 old enough to know better-would they tag the local stadium like a gang banger in California? They said they didn't realize it was such a serious thing. They took a selfie like any good pos narcissist would. They been arrested and ordered to appear in court. Could face 4 months in jail or 20,000L fine(exchange rate Italian or Euros not included). Could turn into another Amanda Knox extradition dispute if they let them return to US.

I don't wether it's the Italian court system or not but I have yet to find these women's names in a report.

I detest those acts of sheer maliciousness. I wouldn't even think of such an act. I am ashamed of them and I hope they pay heavily.

It wouldn't even occur to me to deface property.... and I wouldn't have the tools like spray paint or marking pens to do so handy in a bag anyway....

But I am guilty of picking flowers from a neighbor's yard when I was quite young.... oh the shame.

A friend and I did scratch our names onto a bench at summer camp when I was about 10 or so. We had to spend a couple of hours the next day sanding the bench when everyone else was swimming and didn't get canteen privileges for the rest of the week. I learned my lesson....four days without Nehi Grape Soda was torture!

Maybe they see how those in congress and others in high positions deface this country and their jobs everyday and are just copying their behaviors. You know, do as I do, not as I say.

I would never do something like that, I was raised to respect other people's property.

As was I. I'd never do such a thing. Defacing an ancient monument is a crime, as it should be. Those women were old enough to know better. I guess they will finally learn that actions have consequences, which they should have learned in early childhood.

There are a lot of people out there that think because it's old it's useless. They look at everything like technology-forever changing & disposable. The younger they worse they are but I know plenty of adults the same way. Throw in a lack of appreciation for history or what something like a old tool can do everything is disposable or it simply doesn't matter. I know people that look at a corded drill like a stone sledge hammer a cave man would use. Same for an adding machine or calculator, if you are not doing it with a smart phone you are out of it. The Colosseum was probably one of the first historical sites these girls, oooops ment young women saw in their meaningless lives.

Just proves there are crass idiots everywhere. they were not kids or even teenagers either, so no excuse. This obsession with selfies has gone too far.
