Two huge birds on my neighbors driveway yesterday!

I was looking out our front window yesterday and noticed something on my neighbors drive, I kept watching whatever it was and it spread it's wings and I nearly feel off the couch. It was a huge bird not sure what kind of bird it was and then another one flew down and they stayed there for the longest time. I thought to myself they could carry a baby away as big as they were. They both took off and their wing span was huge.

Turkey buzzards are around here. The first time I saw one was on the neighbors roof, I thought it was a turkey. I had not heard of turkey buzzards before that. They are huge!

They rule the roads around here. If they've found something tasty in the middle of the road they'll just stand there and munch till it's done. The cars just stop and wait.

WOW, those turkey buzzards are scary!
The largest bird I ever saw here in NY was a Blue Heron and it looked like a prehistoric tetradactyl ! Their wing span can reach 6 feet.
Around this time of year turkeys follow deer herds. And they can fly for short distances.
They can sure damage a car it they hit one. I was going down the steep hill I live on one day, and a turkey flew close, over my car and I ducked while I was driving :rolleyes::giggle:

Vultures are rarely seen in my area. Within a five minute walk from our house, we've had blue herons & eagles nesting in trees above a wide, slow spot in the river. Both are very large birds & enjoyable to watch. Ravens, of which the local strain can be quite large, are the common local scavengers. We see many on our property, because they feed on compost piles as well as dead animals

I'm not a bird person. I'm used to seeing birds like robins hopping around the yard. Yet, every year, I get a flock of these huge black birds. I call them "crows"(?). These birds are well over a foot tall, and all black. It's like crows on steroids.
