One in California, the other in Florida, within a day of one another. Friday, an RV was stuck on the tracks in Cali and it seems the passengers escaped unharmed. They were seen running from the RV on footage aired by ABC news. Sadly, on Saturday three people were killed in the Florida crash, including two children.

Crossing train tracks Always requires a drivers Full Attention. Trains are often traveling at high speeds, and can almost appear out of nowhere, especially if the surrounding area consists of heavy forest/vegetation, or a crowded urban environment. Sometimes, there is a malfunction in the crossing guards, and they fail to lower. Then, add a drivers inattention due to conversations or cell phones, and the news then reports another train accident.

Just tragic!
Trains shouldn't still be going across city streets. Our train system is 3rd world- no, 4th world!

So we should what?.....spend millions upon millions of tax payer dollars to , elevate? the tracks, or, move them underground ? Just because a few folks can't pay attention, be cautious?

Many bridges, tunnels, trestles & roads need repair long before we go to something that extreme , disruptive & expensive.

I got stuck on the tracks once and I was paying attention. The light was green and cars were moving so I proceeded across the tracks. All of a sudden, traffic stopped and I was on the tracks behind someone. A lady pulled right behind me and the train gates started to go down. Turns out an officer, for some unknown reason, was stopping traffic even thought there was a green light. I did not see him when I pulled onto the tracks because of a van up ahead then I saw him walk toward the sidewalk. I'm honking and panicking and the lady finally realized she needed to move back. Thank God it was in enough time (or I would have been without a car). From then on...green light or not, I made sure there was a couple of car lengths ahead of me before crossing the tracks.

I wonder what really happened to the lady and children. Did she stall and panic? Was it suicide by train? Or was she really just not paying attention?
