I had heard that the U.S. was training Ukraine pilots on the F-16’s. Biden has decided to release some of these old relics to Ukraine. These older jets still have value against the Russian jets. There are some stipulations. The Ukraines will not be permitted to fly them into Russian airspace. This may force the Russians to take the war to the next step. If Ukraine would decide to fly into Crimea airspace that could cause the Russians to take additional action. Ukraine has talked about reuniting Crimea with Ukraine. Russia would have no choice but to battle it out with the Ukraines to secure Crimea.

I can’t help but to believe that each time the U.S. gives Ukraine more aid, the closer we get to intervening with the Russians. Bringing the war to the Americans would then force NATO to back up the U.S. The next question then would be, “would China come to Russia’s aid?” Are we continuing to get closer to WWIII? Maybe? The U.S. can handle Russia or China, but I’m not so sure if they could take on Russia and China simultaneously. We definitely don’t want to get into a fight with China using boots on the ground.

I am willing to wait and see how the Russians do with the F-16’s. Learning how to fly this plane is not the same as knowing how to fly this plane. There is a distinct difference.

Have you ever listened to Peter Zeihan? He's interesting as he talks about what's happening all over from another angle that I've never thought of. This is a video about Ukraine that was put out a couple of days ago:

perhaps its becoming a war of absolute tactical precision from all sides? - one mistake and boom it goes

I do think that incrementally, we are inching toward a US/Russian confrontation. Each side will continue to bolster its situation with more and more destructive weaponry, until a nation feels itself threatened by the other. I don't know of anyone, who thinks a full scale shooting war will not lead to a nuclear war .

I doubt China will get involved with a Russia/USA conflict, but they might take an opportunity to snatch at Taiwan while the US is busy. China has been signaling they support an end to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. It's only signaling, but the message is clear they do not support Russia's aggression...politically.

I recently found out that the California Coast Guard (my state) has been vigorously training and building the Ukrainian military since 2014, when Russia started bombing the Donbas region of Ukraine. And they probably aren't the only ones who've been over there fortifying Ukraine's military, which has grown from 40,000 members with shared firearms to 500,000 well-trained, well-armed soldiers over the past decade.

Ironic that Russia's attempt at demilitarizing Ukraine has achieved exactly the opposite.

I didn't hear the US is sending F-16's, I heard the US wouldn't oppose others from sending them. But a lot of training would need to take place, plus maintenance regimes. This is a war of attrition. Russia are bleeding cash and influence. The longer it goes on, the weaker they become. As such, it's a proxy war.

Yeah, agree with one of PZ's points, U.S. is dumping a lot of old armaments into this conflict. F-16's included.

Regarding the conflict coming to a resolvable end. Probably not. Like I said to self when U.S. pulled out of Afghanistan, "Self, it won't take the U.S. long to find or start another war." So yeah, here we are. A never-ending cycle. Ukraine is just the latest in the meat-grinder.

I might get back to the chuch thread for a while!! bit less fighting there
