U.S. citizens. Will you prepare for civil unrest in November?

What Murrmurr said. There was violent civil unrest in Saint Louis in 2020. It was very close to where I lived. I have since moved to a rural area so my risk is near zero now.
Michelle and I are talking about spending the holidays up at my cabin up in Lassen County. Since I don't stay the night at my son's on Christmas Eve anymore, and both sons have to work on Thanksgiving, we'll probly do that. We'd leave a week or so before Thanksgiving and stay for a white Christmas. She's off work and school until after New Years Day, so we might stay til then.

Ever been to Eagle Lake, just outside of Susanville? Beautiful lake, beautiful Trout!

I have. I worked in Susanville for a few years. I was a millwright.

Yes! The fishing is excellent! My cabin is closer to the Meadows Reservoir. Fishing is really good there, too. Or, it was. Maybe I'll find out if it still is. I'll probly have to buy some licenses first, tho.

It's been...40 years since I've been there, bought my first boat at the Eagle Lake Marina . At one time I fantasized about buying property and moving there, Spaulding Tract was selling skinny lots, needed to buy 2 to put a house or trailer on, IIRC.
I was too young, it's hard to find a J-O-B in beautiful locations like that. Would have to be a 30 year employee with CalTrans or whatever power company services the area.

Whether it's civil unrest or something like the East Palestine Ohio train derailment we had last year, we just can't know before it happens.

A freight train derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, United States on February 3, 2023, at 8:55 p.m. EST (UTCāˆ’5). The Norfolk Southern freight train was carrying hazardous materials when 38 cars derailed.[1] Several railcars burned for more than two days and emergency crews also conducted controlled burns of several railcars,[2] which released hydrogen chloride and phosgene into the air.[1] As a result, residents within a 1-mile (1.6-kilometer) radius were evacuated. Agencies from Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia assisted in the emergency response.

So I stay well stocked with water, certain cleaning supplies and paper products. I don't worry about food. A few weeks of fasting would do me good.

CalTrans is still a major employer up there. The mill where I worked isn't doing so well. They employ less than half the number of people they used to, a lot of the machines and equipment is old and newer stuff is incredibly expensive. They just haven't been able to stay competitive, and I think all forestry jobs come under the Calif Conservation Corp. Seems they rarely hire locally.

I lucked out with the cabin. It was left to me by my late uncle a little over a decade ago. It's old and small, but well-maintained. I rented it from him when the kids were little. His primary home was in Redding, and he lived just outside of Barstow for several years, too. Out in the desert. It was kinda weird seeing a 100% mountain-man in that setting, but he liked it.

I live in Pennsylvania now. Nothing ever happens off the scale here. When I lived in Arlington, Virginia it was a lot busier. We would want to go into D.C. for shopping, etc. and on weekends some organization would be protesting. I think there was some kind of protest every weekend in D.C. There were always a mess of buses and coaches to deal with.

No I’m not concerned and if there’s any protests I will stay away from where it’s located.
Sounds like a plan. Just don't think about incidents like Waukesha Christmas parade attack - Wikipedia though news coverage has been minimal, perhaps even suppressed?
On November 21, 2021, Darrell Edward Brooks Jr. drove a sport utility vehicle (SUV) through the annual Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, United States, killing 6 people and injuring 62 others.

What if the electric grid is damaged and we have no electricity?

This thread was intended to be about survival. So, since I was so badly prepared when the pandemic came in 2020 I'm am going to stock up on a lot of necessary items this time around. I plan to get hurricane lanterns. OTC meds. & TP of course, And I also plan to buy extra extra bottled water and even canned foods though I usually don't eat that stuff. And batteries. And wood for the fireplaces.

I'm going to do better this time.

That's what the National Guard is.

The National Guard did not exist in 1791 and therefore it was not the militia our Founding Fathers were making reference to when they wrote the Second Amendment that year. It was the Militia Act of 1903 that formally established the National Guard as the organized militia of the United States. That being said, the unorganized militia is defined under Title 10 of the United States Code (10 U.S. Code § 246). According to this law, the militia of the United States consists of two categories: 1. Organized Militia: This includes the National Guard and the Naval Militia. 2. Unorganized Militia: This consists of all able-bodied male citizens (and those intending to become citizens) between the ages of 17 and 45 who are not part of the National Guard or another formal military force.

"What if" has caused so much heartbreak and depression throughout time. No matter who wins the election, there won't be a zombie apocalypse. If there are riots, they will be dealt with as we always have. Things you mentioned like the grid going down... well those are basic disaster survival things that many of us who live in flood/hurricane/tornado/blizzard zones have always done.

We can make ourselves physically sick with "what if." Just be prepared for any disaster, natural or man-made... by using wisdom.

Buy things that you look forward to and enjoy then rotate those items into your normal routine and replace them so they are always fresh.

Eating unfamiliar foods during an emergency just seems to compound the misery.

Things changed over time:
For more than a century, the federal government’s authority over the National Guard has steadily increased, as has its usage overseas.

States, who once held near-total control over their militias, sacrificed autonomy on the altar of a federal financial firehose, which gave the Defense Department leverage to shape the Guard in the image of its full-time counterparts.

You might be shocked, because this is exactly what people are being asked to do if their candidate loses. Well-known and broadly respected organizations have posted web pages that look like some kind of terrorist manifesto. And it is being done with absolutely no sign of reticence or shame about it. Quite the contrary.
Where? I’d like to see that… especially the well known and broadly respected organizations.

Those can be dealt with. However, I don't think the general public would be informed if an extremely dangerous asteroid were known to hit us on a certain date. They would try to save themselves and avoid the public panic that would endanger their own survival.
