I agree, although then you would have to call it something else because it would no longer be "universal." I think that cash, not in-kind payments like food stamps or housing allowances, is the most effective way to fight poverty.

Completely disagree on Israel. Hamas bears the blame for the misery. They could have freed the hostages and surrendered their leadership at any time and ended the fighting. The whole purpose of October 7 was to create this kind of havoc and form another generation of Israel-hating losers.

As I've stated before, October 11th, as heinous as it was, was not an isolated event. It was part of a continuum, of a long history. That said, the repercussion has been the death of 42,000 civilians in Palestine. Babies, children, women among them. This is now going on in Lebanon too, as Israel attack an idea that has no boundaries or borders. The war on Iran is likely coming, with the same results.

So you and I will have to disagree. I don't think the death of babies and children are okay, even after October 11th. For me, it's a disgrace. Still, how your American dollars are spent to achieve this is, of course, something Americans will have to decide.

I'm perfectly fine with it, and would rather have my tax dollars spent on wiping out Hamas and Hezbollah than on many other things. Please keep in mind that both organizations have killed many US citizens and that Hezbollah, for example, has been actively involved in the drug trade here. They're not part of a long history, they are criminal organizations that deserve eradication.

BTW on October 7 Hamas was perfectly happy to kill women and babies then as always. And while 42,000 people may have died since, that's on Hamas, not Israel. Please keep in mind that at least half of the 42,000 were combatants, not civilians.

There aren't any hostages alive at this point. The war continues because Hamas wants it to. They consider the deaths of even their own women and children to be victories for their cause.

As I said, we'll agree to disagree. Which is not saying I have even an iota of support for Hezbollah. However, if the only way it can be achieved is by mostly killing innocent civilians, then it's plain wrong. IMO.

Or bulldozing Palestinian homes with little notice and for no legitimate reason? Or pregnant women being held up at check points until they're forced to give birth at the side of the road and babies die? Or food and water deprivation or stolen homes and farms and orchards or torched homes and olive trees.....the list is long, much longer then this. People seem to think this all started on October 7th, but it actually started decades ago.

Then there's the issue of Israel bombing the SS Liberty even though it was clearly marked as an American ship, American Rachel Corrie being run over by an Israeli bulldozer as he tore down a Palestinian home, or the World Central Kitchen worker (also an American)....plus at least 10 other Americans who've been targeted by the IDF......any issues with extra-judicial killings like that? Full immunity for that government because....? Because double standards matter?

Whatever my response would be, it wouldn't involve murdering hundreds of innocent people on kibbutzes, raping women and taking hostages.

I remember Rachel Corrie and I remember thinking that her death was a testament to her own stupidity.

Many Israeli actions are brutal and self-defeating, I agree with you there. The Liberty was bombed in 1967 so I think the statute of limitations might be up on that one.

Oh well, if there's a Youtube video saying it failed, it must have.

I watched six minutes of the video, which is asking a lot, because the high speed delivery style commonly used on the internet does more to wear out my brain than pass along useful information. The first six minutes talks about the alleged benefits of UBI, which he promises to dislike later in the video. So even with his UBI positives of the first six minutes the fast delivery leaves no time to assimilate and consider validity of his points, and then I turned it off when he started trying to sell his electric desk that goes up and down.

So I missed the part where he doesn't like UBI, but I already knew all I could possibly keep up with from title of the video. Actually, the more thoughtful discussion from members of the forum gives me much more to think about, even though I'm still not convinced one way or the other. But one fast talker on the internet is not going to convince me of much, other than tell me that one guy with a video camera has an opinion.
