It's in Gurning, in rural England, and goes back to the 13th century, along with wheelbarrow races and horn blowing competitions. It's not really about faces that are seriously "ugly," which would be cruel. It's a lighthearted competition for what we Americans would call "making faces." They even have a junior division. There's also an article about absolutely ridiculous sports competitions in Finland. Nice to see that some folks are still managing to have fun!
