The government has allowed animal testing for makeup ingredients to resume despite a 25-year ban.
It changed a policy on animal testing to align with EU chemical rules, according to a High Court ruling.
The High Court said on Friday that the government was acting legally after a case was brought by animal rights activists.
More than 80 brands have said they are "dismayed" by the government's new position.

I have mixed feelings on this. I used to work at a place that did animal testing, not the part of the business I was involved in, but I saw the goings on.

When I was young and working in a lab I did once participate in guillotining rats as part of some animal testing. It was to determine carcinogenaity of environmental toxins in fish. The purpose was to know what fish were safe to eat. I knew it was important research, but still it made me sick, I still am when I think of it. I never participated again, but I know it has to be done.

I think animal testing should always be done only for the actual benefit of people and our health. I have no problem doing it for drug testing and development, and other legitimate medical purposes. It has been an important part of the development of our medical know how. It is also beneficial in determining the toxicity of chemicals we are exposed to, everything from pesticides to naturally occurring things in drinking water. It has saved many lives and made our lives more comfortable. It's essential to insure food additives are safe.

However I pretty much draw the line at cosmetics. I don't think most cosmetics are essential for our lives and comfort. Unfortunately there is lots of animal testing for cosmetics. Drawing that line is a bit hard, for example in the photo in the article the testing is for a sunscreen ingredient, and sunscreen does help reduce skin cancer... And you can argue that things like hand lotion are necessary...

Maybe requiring labeling of products that use animal testing would help. I think a lot of people would prefer products that don't. I would.

All internal medications have had animal testing done prior to release. I don't condone useless experiments resulting in the torturing of animals. But if it's either an animal's life or a human life at stake.........until we have a non-animal testing way to test products for humans, we will have animal testing. I also think any animal testing has to be scientifically necessary, with the absolute minimum discomfort for the animals. I'm not sure most cosmetics have any scientific necessity.

Animal experimentation is also practiced in mt. I have had the deplorable experience of the aftermath of my pets both tortured by experiencing the results of a bacterium placed in their ears when I leave my home for supplies, the list of atrocities also includes grand theft of all my personal property with complaints but no arrests. How can a person get results when the system here is geared to corruptio?
