just talking to some medic and nursing colleges in UK and they confirmed things are on the move - they are sick and tired of a failing NHS and lack of decent care for people and are heading south very south

medical exodus to Oz

Oz of course are welcoming them with open arms as we need to build our own numbers up quickly. feel so sad about UK and friends and rellies but these are the realities of having a good and rewarding life.

Incidentally was watching a doco recently of life on the isles of Guernsey and Jersey - now that looks like a nice lifestyle but how about hospitals??

Canada is a hell of a lot closer to the UK than Australia is, both in terms of distance and better living. UK citizens can come to Canada to visit for a week with out a visa and drop resumes with various hospitals and medical institutions. The flight from the UK to Montreal or Toronto is about 8 hours, versus nearly 24 to get to Australia. Obviously Canada has a 4 seasons climate, but unless you are going to be working the entire day outdoors, nurses and Doctors don't need to worry about the cold weather.

Having your UK credentials recognized in Canada is not hard at all. The Canadian Federal Government recruits foreign trained Doctors, like my Cardiologist, who is from Bulgaria. The Express Entry Immigration program can bring qualified medical types to Canada in under 6 months time. JimB.

however some if not many may have relatives already in Oz and I believe the weather may be slightly better? and we speak a similar venacular?jet travel these days presents a usually comfortable flight and you may be able to have stop offs in asia?

The flight times from London to Sydney vary between 22 hours and 28 hours, depending on how many stops the aircraft makes on route. Stop offs on route ? Nope, the best you could hope for is a short walk around the in transit lounge in the airport then get back in your seat. London to Calgary Alberta is 9 hours, and I will point out that Calgary is about two thirds of the way across Canada. For UK medical types working in Canada, flying home for a week or 2 is a 7 or 9 hour flight. Compare the cost and the time required to get from Australia to the UK.

I had to laugh when you wrote "we speak a similar venaculer ? You mean "strine '? What sort of English do you think Canadians speak ? JimB. In Toronto.

One of my nieces is a GP in Calgary. She completed her training in London and then emigrated to Canada where she married a doctor.
Thats interesting. What does she say about living in Calgary, and in Canada in general ? How long has she been living in Canada ? JImB In Toronto.

there is a long history with Oz - we originally invaded it and sorta sacked it and then ran it and it has been ever thus [not that I condone any of this] - there is quite a strong push by the Indigenous groups to take it back? - there is still therefore a strong kinship between UK and Oz not quite the same with Canada where my sister lives and I have visited - it's got a yankee sorta feel?? no offence they just speak funny ?

In 2022-2023, 1,974 British medical professionals relocated to Australia — a 67 per cent increase from 2021–2022.
