Ukraine dared to invade Russia!

This invasion came as a complete surprise. Especially considering all the warnings from Putin about the sanctity of Russian soil, and about the Russian military reactions if it were ever violated.

To somewhat quote a portion of the Kingston Trio's "Merry Minuet" from the early '60s....

"...... And we know for certain that some lovely day, someone will set the spark off, and we will all be blown away"!

I don't know what's going on. I can only guess...... the Ukranians are a short distance from a Nuclear Power Station on Russian soil. Perhaps it's to counter a threat from Russia to bomb such plants in Ukraine?

Pure guess work on my part. I mean, Ukraine can't possibly believe they can run right over Russia, so there has to be some strategic reason this is happening.

Who would have imagined that Ukraine would ever dare to invade Russia? Reminds me of the saying that very often, fact is far stranger than fiction.

The Ukraine war is the strangest thing ever, isn't it? A fight against an enemy that doesn't exist. $100 drones bringing multi-million $ weapons to their knees. A stand off between one of the worlds supposed greatest power and a smallish country which borders the adversaries. It's a real head scratcher. I don't know how it ends, I just hope it does soon.

True! This war does seem weird! We also don't need this tension.

They sure did albeit more an incursion than full fledged invasion

Ukraine incursion into Russian territory catches them by surprise.

But the Russians were caught off guard and they got some strategic stuff like gas pumping stations and are near nuke plant I think. The question is how long can they hold and will Putin divert existing resources to this new front. So far he's just ordered evacuations. I think he positioning special forces.

It isn't likely that Ukraine can take and keep territory inside Russian borders because they don't possess the supply channels for such an undertaking. The win that Ukraine can claim and deserves is giving Putin a blackeye before his people and the world. It shows that a determined small country can punch big bad Russia in the eye and leave a long remembered mark. Putin would be wise to withdraw and leave Ukraina alone like he did in Afghanistan many years ago, but his over inflated ego and Napoleon complex probably won't let him.

What really gets me is how shocked the Russian citizens in Kursk are now that they are being affected. It's as if they had been totally oblivious to the horrible suffering that their government is inflicting on Ukrainians just across the border, or else that they knew, and yet were approving of it.

The Russian citizens are seriously between "a rock and a hard place". Like their brothers in China, North Korea, some mid-east countries, and even some south American countries, to "protest" is to risk everything - including your life and the lives of your loved ones.

While it may be hard for us to conceive, Putin is in TOTAL charge of everything that goes on in Russia. He is not much different from Stalin, who is one of the top 5 or so mass murderers in world history.

True. Fear of violent reprisals can indeed make citizens reluctant to express how they really feel concerning government policies. That Stalin dude was a real butcher! If Putin is similar, then of course they are afraid.

This is part of Putin’s plan to scare other countries into submission to his will. First he weakens NATO with his threats and Sabre rattling. Then the quick attack of the Russian troops in Ukraine show that the Russian army is near invincible. This scares other non NATO nations so badly they join the toothless NATO paper tiger. Now, the first invasion of Russian territory since WW2 makes us realize how strong and skillful the Russian Army is, further striking fear into Western countries. All he needs to do now is nuke Ukraine and wait for the wind to blow the radiation cloud into Russia. That will cement his wise and powerful leadership.

You have to wonder how he stays in power.

To stay in power, dictators, such as Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, and now Putin, need the fanatical support of a significant number of people in positions of authority and among the general population who agree with their dictatorial policies.

You all know, it was Ukraine that started this whole thing right. The regions of eastern Ukraine had elections and voted to join the Russian side. Ukraine attacked those regions and Russia intervened and responded. Now they are the bad guys.

Not to mention the dozens of biolabs in Ukraine linked to the US, the illegal conscription of people in Ukraine, the human organ harvesting farms/warehouse found in Ukraine. No...all good. Russia bad.

Also please name what Russia has done to taunt Nato? Nato and the US have done nothing but bring weapons, troops and more to Russias doorstep for years.

Hmmm, US attacks any country it wants without Nato approval, creates or get involved in wars-vietnam, korea, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghan, Syria, Libya. Yemen) and now Israel/Gaza and nothing is said.

Russia does nothing but defend its own people as 90 percent of eastern Ukraine is Russian) and they are the bad ones? How?

Everyone always says Russia will go into Europe. Why? Wheres the proof? Reports? Nothing.

Simple search shows Russia has more resources than most of the world, a tremendous country and a small population comparative to its size.

Now, before anyone fill their pants, I am not pro Russian, or anti Ukraine or anti US or anything. I just have years of experience in these regions, worked and consulted with many high ranking individuals and the truth in the 'news' is not the truth in reality. I am pro peace.

You are right! There are definitely two sides to every issue, and It is absolutely necessary to investigate both sides before reaching a conclusion. Otherwise the conclusion runs the risk of being unjustified. Thanks for the reminder. BTW I agree that the USA and NATO have been provocative in their massing of weapons near the Russian border. Ironically, this is something the USA doesn't itself tolerate as is evident by the Cuban Missile Crisis which such a military move provoked back in the 60's.

I doubt if Putin would ever tolerate Ukraine joining NATO. He will do whatever is necessary to keep this from happening. Nothing has really changed from when this war began, other than some shift in resources such as, the U.S. continuing to give supplies and money to Ukraine. If we send troops into Ukraine, you can bet Putin will look at this as an escalation of the war and who knows what he will do to stop any further expansion.

The danger is that if Putin keeps threatening and not responding as he had promised, he will eventually embolden some NATO member nation, or maybe the USA itself to send troops.

The population of Ukraine is 38 million, just a bit smaller than that of Canada. Plus they have been getting massive amounts of weapons and equipment from both NATO and other western countries. This incursion is a two fold operation, to draw Russian forces from other areas, and to make it plain to the Russian people that their country will suffer attacks that Putin is unable to prevent. JIMb.

Not going to happen. NATO and the USA would be content to give material support and funds to Ukraine. NATO is a military co-operative group, it doesn't allow individual member states to act without the approval of ALL members. Example the NATO intervention in the Balkans in the 1990's.
