Ukraine Dominant

I've been talking about the Ukrainian situation on another platform, out of respect for the rules here.

But there are certainly stories coming out of it that give me hope for humanity, like what @todalake posted in comment #6.

Sshhhh, 🤫be careful..we may not get any.. Admin has been very patient with us thus far...given that we're not supposed to discuss politics at all...
I try to follow the rules, i have other places i can discuss the more political aspects of this situation. But you know it is kind of tricky because politics is a factor in most every aspect of our lives--work, health, where we choose to live, etc. Since the mid 20th century here in USA religion and politics have been deeply entwined despite our constitutional rule about seperation of them.

It occurred to me that the Russia/Ukraine situation would be especially difficult for some of us to talk about civilally because of a perceived American involvement in it. So i'm going refrain from further comment on that aspect.

It also occurs to me, that taken literally, 'no politics' could mean we can't discuss our feelings about the very real threat of WWIII breaking out and going nuclear. Which feels odd considering all the feelings and concerns we do share with each other.

If Admin feels that even saying what i have is too much, Feel free to delete and that will give me more clues about what is acceptable and what is not.

Instead of combining current threads into one, wiser to prohibit new ones. Generally as a comptuer/telecom career person from earliest days, I've never seen another forum where so many members have a tendency to start lots of threads like throwing s!@t against the wall to see what sticks. Even when a subject already has an active thread. This tends to create dilution to the point many threads are quickly pushed to back pages, out of sight, out of mind. Accordingly there might be wisdom to limit the number of new threads a member might post during say a given week.

You know when you think about it a lot of things revolve around politics. Say, you talk about inflation, the cost of housing, the problem of global warming or getting rid of Covid19. We elect people to make rules for us and to deal with all the social problems I have mentioned. It's the politicians who are suppose to be the "movers and shakers" in this world. If you ask me, too many of them ain't been moving nor shaking too much; just collecting their fine incomes and dreaming of their even better pension plans.

Which is exactly why I do not understand the 'no-politics' policy here ??

We are all literally controled by politics & yet we are not permitted to even discuss them with our peers, many of which we admire & respect.

I don’t know about yours but in most homes, some things are tended to in certain areas.
For example, food is eaten and dishes washed, usually in the kitchen and dining room.
Other, less palatable, actions and subjects are tended to elsewhere. If one feels the urgent
need to discuss politics, there probably are other places to do so without stinking up a
smorgasbord of thought as great as this one is. It was here before your opinions, or mine
were, after all. And I dare say that it will carry on long after you and I might not.
