United States and Canada Will Always Be The Best Of Friends

And now for the Canadian opinion. Your current Government has threatened us, insulted us, tried to ruin our economy, said that we are a security threat to the USA. Are we Canadians supposed to simply smile and ignore all of those provocations? No we won't.

What we are doing is boycotting all American products, and buying from other International allies. Our Government is finding new trading partners, other than the USA. Canadians who used to travel to the States, are now going to Europe, the Caribbean, and to other parts of the world.

The days of friendship are over. Canadians won't be bullied. JIMB.

I understand. I wish I could do something about it, but I can't.

This is one of those things that I don't think a lot of Americans really consider. Current events amount to isolationism for the US. The US has been hugely influential, and it has benefited greatly from that. But now things have been destroyed over a short period of time. Global supply chains have become disrupted, and countries are coming around to the fact that we can't rely on the US any more. Rather than bow down, they'll simply go elsewhere.

If this is what most Americans want, then fine - job done. Personally, I think it's a huge gamble with the future. But hey ho.

To all The Canadians who are at rest in Britain's Commonwealth War Graves Commission, and to all The Americans who rest in The Cambridge American Cemetery & Memorial, I am forever grateful. They gave their lives and thank you just isn't ever enough. But thank you all the same. For their lives, along with many others, have given me a relatively peaceful 80 years in Europe.

Unfortunately, things between Canada & the US are about to become even more strained when the official review of the current CUSMA Trade agreement between US/Canada/Mexico begins July 1st this year. There's already a lot of trash talk filling the space leading up to this. It could get ugly and have significant negative economic effects on both sides of the border.

Lets be clear about where the "trash Talk " is coming from. Not from the Canadian Government, who are led by a Prime Minister who in the past was the Head of the Bank of Canada, and ALSO the Head of the Bank of England. A trained economist, with degrees from both Harvard and Oxford Universities. JIMB>

But please understand, what 'government' is doing doesn't represent American citizens and OUR viewpoints..

As an American I approve of this message.

Although I have always been a baseball fan, I think Hockey has the best fans. Listen to Maple Leaf and Sabre fans prove that friendship.

This brings tears to my eyes also.
We are great friends as far as I’m concerned .
Let’s not ruin this sentiment with trash talk.
It was meant to be an uplifting post. Let’s keep it that way.

Please explain HOW your President has been ELECTED TWICE, by the voters in your country? JIMB>
I honestly do not have an answer to that.
I only know of one person who supported (voted) for him the first time, and that was because the person was relatively new to voting and didn't know about independent candidates.

Let's not turn this into an ugly political thread.

The intent by @Paladin1950 was to demonstrate the enduring friendship and mutual admiration of nearly all American people toward Canadians, and nearly all Canadian people toward Americans.

A transitory leader will not and cannot despoil a multi-century relationship.
As @VaughanJB said above, this too shall pass.

Just for the record, my view is that the issues causing angst for Canada have nothing to do with Americans as individuals so my attitudes toward individual Americans has not changed. Americans & Canadians as people have always got along famously. We share many common cultural similarities as well as the longest undefended border in the world and due to that proximity our mutual trade is critical to both countries. We have one of the most intertwined supply chain in the world.

As far as the voting issue, the freedom to vote for whoever you feel will do the best job running your country is the hallmark of democracy. I might hazzard a guess that many people, whether in the US or Canada may have a completely different view points come our next elections, as is our right.

Like most hockey fans, I know the Canadian national anthem by heart and sing along at game openings as I've just done, whilst watching this video. This made me cry. Thank you so much for posting it, @Paladin1950. ā¤ļø
