Upside Down Apple Walnut Pie

Its starting to cool off and dessert has been calling my name.
Maybe I will just make one pie. :D


Apple Walnut Upside down Pie


Butter 3 sticks
Brown Sugar 1 1/2 cups
Walnuts 1 cup chopped
Deep Dish Pie Crusts 4


Melt butter and brown sugar in cast iron skillet until sugar is melted.
Add nuts and stir.

Spray two deep pie plates with Pam etc.
Pour half of mixture into each pie plate.
Put one crust on top of each mixture.
Pierce crust with a knife.
Crust should NOT touch sides of pie plate.
Set aside.

The following is for each pie.

Flour 3 T
Cinnamon 3/4 tsp
Nutmeg 1/8 tsp
Salt 1/4 tsp
Granny Smith Apples 5 cups cut in 3/4 " cubes

Mix dry ingredients together and toss with apple cubes.
Put cubes into pie plate on top of first crust.
Put another crust on top of apples and crimp to bottom/first crust.
Crust should NOT touch sides.

Repeat for second pie.


Preheat oven. Bake 375 for one hour. Crust will be brown.
Remove pie from oven.
Run knife around edge and turn pie upside down into another pie plate.
Dont dilly dally. Do this IMMEDIATELY. Do not let pie cool or it will be stuck. BTDT.

This final flip is a great time to use decorative plates that you wouldnt want to put in the oven.
I use my Benninton pie plates.
