Urgent care

Has anyone used them as their ongoing doctor? Can they be used as such? I believe I have noted in the past, that I am not really happy with the Doc that i currently see. I have an Urgent Care very near me, so????

I think it depends, @rgp who is staffing the practice. I know a few people happy with the care they have received at two different locations.

I love my PCP who has his own practice. I think the only way you could know for sure is to go there a couple of times at least and see what kind of care you get. I like the idea of seeing the same doctor each time and that may not happen at an urgent care facility. Perhaps that isn't even important to you.

I went a couple of years ago. I fell over some wire fencing I was putting up in the garden. I though I broke a rib . It was Sunday so I went to Urgent care. The doctor was very nice, I had xrays and treated for a broken rib all for $20.00. My BP was high and he suggested I see my primary doctor about that.
I asked if I could come back to him for long term treatment and he said no it was for emergencies only.
Had I gone to the ER I would be sitting there for hours and would have a huge deductible to pay.
I don't go to my primary care doctor on a regular basis so from now on for any emergency I will go to Urgent Care.
I also wish I could use them as my primary doctor but that's not possible.

It's only for emergencies. They will tell you to keep in touch with your physician after they treat you. Perhaps they could help you find a better or different dr.

I go to urgent care for any non-routine problems. If I have a bad sinus infection or I'm coughing my head off, I know better than to call my doctor's office: "We can squeeze you in on Wednesday. (2 days from now...…)"

I can actually make an appointment at the urgent care or I can just check in and can wait in my car out in the parking lot until they call me in. It's only a couple of miles from the house (the doctor is 8 miles away through heavy traffic).

I've always had good service from the urgent care. They always call the next day to see how I am doing.

Definitely YES. My husband and I both have our regular doctors in our closest Urgent Care.

I don't know if all Urgent Care work the same.
But ours has a staff of doctors who do the normal doctor thing seeing their patients all day long. But when an emergency person comes in, they switch into emergency room mode.

Which has added benefits. When I fell and hurt myself, went to the Urgent Care.
They already had my records for 30 years back on file and my Health Insurance info, past vaccinations etc.

No questions to answer and no forms to fill out, no insurance to contact and verify etc. Which is very helpful when in pain, stressed, worried, foggy brained like I was.

They already knew all medication and health supplement regime (no risk of interactions with drugs they were going to use/prescribe for me).
They also knew that I was overdue to have a Tetanus (what do they call it now DTAP, I think) so gave me that while there since my injury involved metal.

You also have the potential for your own doctor. who knows you very well as a person and a patient to be the one to treat you. It depends on who is on the Urgent Care ER schedule or If your doctor is not busy when you come in.

@Homeschoolie Must be nice. They don't let us do that here. We can't just go pick our own dr. here even. They send a request to the dr and they review our file and say yay or nay as to whether or not they want us as a pt. You get assigned whoever will take you.

Well, I may stop by......Hope It is not to gross to note why? but......I have this 'thing', in the middle of my back, that I can't see, or reach. It hurts, it itches...do not know what the hell it is. I really wish I could get someone, doc/nurse, to look at it, maybe apply some form of med to it. That is why I was thinking of U/Care, then ask about establishing one of the doc's there as my doc....if they do that.

Trouble is at this time, I am a bit reluctant due to COVID....Hate to go somewhere , where germs might be prevalent , just for this ?

@rgp
My docs don't want me going to any doctor's office due to the sick people waiting to be seen. I was told a month ago not to go to any doc office for at least 2 months. Thought that was overreaching at the time, but not now. You will be surrounded by people not feeling well, hence, urgent care. I wish you could wait for this, or have someone take a picture of it which you can text in to a doc.

We have 2 Urgent cares here... One is my regular Dr, the other is just emergency only...
I would just ask them and see.
