US Hurricanes and Tornadoes

DBEY: The US has experienced a Summer without a hurricane and its lowest ever tornado count:

I'm sure I speak for all of us in saying how grateful we are to have such a low count. Hurricane Season officially ends near the end of Nov, am I right on that? I know Mother Nature has a mind of her own, but from my experience you rarely hear of hurricanes in the fall. At the same time, I take nothing for granted....too many very bizarre weather conditions happening in the last few years.

... Maybe businesses that produce carbon dioxide should get a tax credit ??

Nice thought, but the meteorologists are ascribing it to dry air and dust blowing out of Africa and strong high-level winds that kill the storms before they get too big.

They also say not to get too comfortable because this is really only "half-time" and a lot can happen in the second half.

Tornadoes don't seem to have a season; but hurricanes need very warm water to develop and grow in strength .. and by this time of year cold air usually starts to blow in from the north and hurricanes can't get a foothold, as ocean and gulf waters cool.

2013 – a year with minimal extreme weather events in the US

Apart from tornadoes and hurricanes, it looks like it's quiet on the fire front too ....
Wildfires
Second, the number of wildfires across the US so far this year is on pace to be the lowest it has been in the past ten years and the acreage involved is at the second lowest level in that same time period (table below).
