Using emoticons in your messages

Am bumping up this dated modest discussion as we have numbers of new members here at SF, some of which have posted text as jokes and or sarcasm without emoticons they later became surprised over when others didn't understand they were joking or using sarcasm as though other members were somehow supposed to.

And, as sometimes happens, I clicked on a few of these and these before realizing the posts were about a year old.

A lot of people don't really have a sense of humor, and you practically need to wear a rubber nose and long floppy shoes and honk a little horn before they "get it."

I like emoticons.

Sure they can be misinterpreted - but so can written words
