Using old postage stamps

Will the post office still accept old postage stamps? I need a stamp and I found a 39 cent stamp that I haven't used. Will they still take this as long as I add the eleven cents to equal 50? I haven't needed stamps in so long, I'm not sure.
 

Is it a forever stamp? If not, add enough stamps to make at least 50 cents and you are good to go. I did this sometime ago with no problem.

No, it isn't a Forever stamp.

I was hoping they still did but since I haven't used them in so long, I thought I had better check first. Since I asked this, I found three 33 cent stamps in addition to the 39 cent I referred to in my original post. I don't mind adding the correct amount to them as long as I can still use them. Thank you to both of you for your replies!

I still use them just not on anything that is terribly important.

I wonder how many stamps on one envelope are too many!

All my stamps are Christmas Stamps, but they are
legal, they were sometimes used as currency here.

The Post Office was an official Government Office
and its stamps were also official, so I think that in
America they will be the same as here.
