V A as a representation of a single payer system

Ref why Republicans do what they do - besides being paid to do so - is that they want to privatize all of government - including the VA, SS and Medicare. Guess why? They get the money sitting in these agencies and then take these "private" companies and declare bankruptcy. Then all those that voted for them will be up in arms - but too late.

I didn't know there was money sitting in those agencies. I thought the funding was budgeted. Read Jackie's post #22 she recognizes that those are funded.

I don't put blame for fiscal mismanagement on any particular party. The blame falls on both parties trying to provide what people want that will get them re-elected. So far it has worked really well.

I think overall the population is beginning to realize that paying for what has been generated in the past is getting to be more than the tax base can handle. Using the VA as an example of what Gov. does to contain cost IMO should be considered as a n indicator of what a gov. operated single payer system could look like if 322 million people are to be covered. Of course eliminating the funding for V A, Medicare, Medicaid and redirecting that funding a single payer system would be needed.

What would be a fair amount to deduct from wages to support the needs of people?

I think I am one of those uneducated voters that has to use the 2016 CBO projections to understand the financial shape America is in and that is why I post that I don't think our Gov. is capable of operating a single payer system that will work.

There you go blowing that Republican smoke 'both parties do it'.....IT AIN'T SO.

The records show that it is REPUBLICANS that are pushing for Privatization any way they can.

Exactly.....their plan.....starve all the government agencies, then they can spread it to all that the agencies are failing and it is Obama/Democrat's fault ...Republicans swallow this hook. line and sinker....they then vote on more Republicans that will vote in Privatization.

They are counting on the average Joe not checking facts to see who votes to under fund and cut services.....and so it goes.

Selective quoting works well. My response was about funding which was my lead separate sentence.
The following sentence dealt with fiscal mismanagement the one you chose to post. Following that I reflected on the past. Of course one would have to consider using the funds collected for Medicare being used in the general fund and that being replaced by bonds as being fiscally irresponsible.

For me taking funds that were removed from my pay to fund Medicare then spent to boost whatever politicians from both parties wanted to spend it on to stay in office is irresponsible. Especially because bond debt was generated to replace that money.

Debt isn't a bad thing it's when the ability to pay for that debt is impacted and the deficit grows that problems arise. I could be wrong but then again the C B O could be wrong.

CBO projects a $534 billion deficit in fiscal year 2016, about $100 billion more than in 2015. If current laws generally remained unchanged, the deficit would increase from 2.9 percent to 4.9 percent of GDP over the next decade

I really doubt that will have any impact on me but I sure would hate to be in my 50's looking forward to that.

I hope those wanting a government run single payer system expect better.

4 quit after Oklahoma veteran with maggots in wound dies
Fox News 4 hours ago .

TALIHINA, Okla. – Four staff members have resigned from a southeastern Oklahoma veterans facility rather than face the possibility of getting fired, after a resident was found to have maggots in a wound. Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs executive director Myles Deering said the maggots were discovered while the patient was alive at the facility in Talihina, about 130 miles southeast of Tulsa. Deering said the maggots were not the cause of his death. Deering said the veteran came to the center with an infection and died of sepsis, the Tulsa World reported. The agency said a physician's assistant and three nurses, including the director of nursing, resigned after an investigation was conducted. ...

Consider this as an example of "single payer" - remember back a bit when there was all sorts of information about falsifying documents at the VA and vets not getting care? It took an act of Congress to punish those responsible - and that was only the SES people. Everyone up to GS-15 was untouchable. And the end result, much of the penalties were retracted.

That is a government run enterprise, it could not happen in the private sector - so where do we want our health care receiving it's direction from?
