VA benefits after waiting 57 years

I didn't know there were so many issues. The army told my Dad that the government will take care of him.
After his discharge from the Korean war, he was denied benefits because there were 7 mistakes on his discharge paper. He was told he needed a correction sheet, which he showed them also. He had tried twice more and was denied each time. He gave up because he had work to be doing (his words).
The only thing he was ever given, was a plaque on his cemetery stone.
Yup, it’s terrible. You can jump through all the hoops and get nothing. I am so sorry this happened to him.

Correct. Good info. I am Gold Star wife but made sure I gave my income tax lady that regulation from the VA as well as my VA income letter every year because it seemed I was first DIC client she had long ago. Any vet who feels their DD 214 is incorrect can use an SF 180 on line to correct it. DOD wil issue DD 215 but sometimes VA will ignore it and must accept it. My husband s Dd 215 held awards he never knew he got after the Vietnam War. They sent him the PUC ribbon and other ribbons but told him he had to purchase the Vietnamese medals from a BX because our government cannot not make Vietnam .Government medals.

I used to work at a VA Hospital. Even though I worked there, I knew it was a huge bureaucratic nightmare to get care. Most blame the no-good-jackasses at the VA. But, while there's a war going on, Congress is really liberal in handing out the care for the wounded. After the war, Congress gets all frugal, and has to "stop the spending". So, it's what Congress can give, Congress can take away. People get caught between the shifting moods of Congress.

I was sexually assaulted three times while in the military. I've been fighting with the VA for 16 years now.

They say "We have no record of your medical records" twice of which were for sexual assault. I now have PTSD not only from the sexual assaults, but from the VA saying they don't believe me and rejecting my claims over and over and over.

The VA has been providing me PTSD treatment for 16 years, too...but they keep saying "No" we don't know where the PTSD comes from. But they DO give me compensation for hearing loss and a bum knee. They have driven me crazy.

The PTSD got so bad, I ended up not being able to work at age 58 and having to go on Social Security disability in 2012. So my Social Security is small. Even though SSA says I was disabled due to PTSD/sexual assaults, the VA still doesn't believe me. I've had three VA evaluations, all four were "inconclusive" - but the VA is still treating me for something they say I don't have. Is utterly ridiculous. I have just thrown ALL my records and ALL my rejections in a box and hidden it in the attic, it is so distressing. Guess I will need to find a good lawyer like yours, but not sure I have the strength.

I am so sorry they treated you like that. With my late hubby, almost all his service records were missing, for some reason. Turned out, the DD214 proved he was in Viet Nam. While his major depression and PTSD was glaringly obvious, they resisted even after a surgical mistake by a VA surgeon left him disabled and we had no income until SS disability came in. Later, we kept fighting, claims finally began to service connect him. Ended up P&T, TDIU, with practically no service records at all. And I have DIC as his widow. I hope you get everything you deserve as a veteran!

What did I get out of 5 years in the navy, so many things — not being drafted into service in Vietnam (a horror on wheels that happened weeks after I joined the Navy) travel from Morocco to Istanbul, and virtually all of Europe as well as numerous visits to Hawaii, Japan, Hong Kong, and the Phillipines, and a great resume when I got out. No complaints here.
