What sort of vacuum cleaner do you prefer? What type rugs do you have?
Wood floors? Everyone's household needs are different...

So, If you were to go purchase a new vacuum cleaner today, which might
you purchase?

I just purchased a new vacuum about a month ago. I used to be a fan of Shark vacuums but this time I went with a Bissell because the reviews were so positive concerning how it picked up pet hair. I have a sweet furbaby that sheds 24/7 every day. She gets groomed and brushed but the shedding is just part of her breed. I vacuum twice a day (hardwood floors) and will say that the Bissell does an excellent job!

For the carpeting, I have an Oreck. I find it rather heavy.

For the hard floors, the Dyson 8 and like it. My friend bought the model for pets. She never pays attention to tv ads but these sold her and when she went to purchase found the two big vacuum cleaner stores refused to carry them. She’s finally found one and hates it because of the maintenance involved. There are lots little crevices that need cleaning. That’s because she bought the pet model and doesn’t have a pet.

We got a blue Henry. Plenty of suction but I find it a bit heavy to carry up and down the stairs. We did have a Vax upright (don't recall the exact model) which was pretty good for a long time; quite disappointed by the rechargeable cordless Vax though, as it seemed underpowered and basically inefficient. But as with all these things, YMMV

I have an older model Hoover Wind Tunnel, I've had it for about 10 years, it has been a good one, I've never had to change the belt and it is easy to empty the canister, has very good suction. I have wood floors and area rugs.
I had one of those, but it was sooo hard for me to push!
I'm much happier w/this Hoover upright swivel now.

It just seems to glide when I push it..

I have my original Dyson (with filters) which is old & still doing a great job. I bought a Dyson Animal (no filters) when it first came out as a back up to the first. Both are great on carpet & wooden floors. The old one is upstairs & "newer" down so I don't have to lug one around. For my stairs, I have a small handheld corded Dirt Devil.

JMO, don’t ever buy a really plush, thick carpet. I don’t know why DH thought we had to have this. It’s almost impossible to move the Oreck across it. It’s become better after a few years, but I still hate it.
Agree, I made this mistake on two area rugs, I have a roomba that is useless on these rugs, and it's a pita to clean with the big vac.

I take care of the floors because my wife has a screwed up back. I have a Kirby with an auto transmission. Heavy, but you can push and pull with 1 finger. It's the only kind that will suck up cat hair. All the other brands were loud and just piled up the cat hair.
I remember the OLD Kirby's, and it was my parents very favorite always. Heavy as a tank, but it
got the job done ;) Now they are lighter and more easy to use and efficient. It is nice you take care of the
floors Stretch5881.
