Valentines Day

I dunno why I've always liked Valentines Day. I think it's those heart shaped boxes of candy. I never got anything from any guy on Valentine's Day. Not even my ex husband who said he didn't believe in Valentines Day. I remember once at work I told this guy " it seems like the worst witches here get so many Valentines gifts delivered while the sweet women don't seem to get any. I wonder why the witches get more love." He laughed and said " They don't get more love their significant others are terrified of the storm that will happen if they don't send gifts."
I still like Valentines even though I never have a 'Valentine'. What I do though is buy myself a pretty box of candy , make myself something nice and laugh and tell myself " I really love you" LOL

I don't usually bother much about Valentine's day one way or another - if I remember I get myself some chocolate or if not maybe after it goes on sale. This year I'm preparing in advance with chocolate mousse and whipped cream!

To me Valentine's Day is just another commercial holiday where businesses have another opportunity to sell their cards, teddy bears and candies. It turns my stomach when I see jewelry store commercials this time of year saying that if the man give his special lady a gift of gold, she'll "reward" him with gratefulness. My hubby shows his love in many ways during the year, and we don't fall into these consumer traps. Maybe in high school a "be my valentine" was cool. I did buy some Hershey kisses with the Hazelnut center in the Valentine's Day candy aisle, just because I didn't see them anywhere else.

Well I wouldn't wear diamonds even if they were bought for me- that's just my thing.. I like the heart chocolate boxes and the little chalky candies that say 'be mine' and stuff. Maybe it makes me feel like a third grader again. I dunno, but I like Valentines Day. I agree with most of the holidays being waaaay too commercial. I've always treasured home made gifts the most.

I am getting a valentine, all the way from Boston! Informed today, it has been mailed. What a nice Irishman. So excited. I think I shall buy myself a box of locally made Belgian chocolates to celebrate.

Happy Valentines Day...:chocolate:

Wife and I have simmer down some for Valentines Day. Since we are both Diabetic II, have to stay away from the candy. However, since we do generally get each other something for Valentines Day, this year we decided to buy, online, two metal/diecast cars that match the first car we ever owned. Got them in the other day and they look great. Mine is a 1956 Chevy Bel Air and hers is a 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Will buy two plastic display cases to show them off and keep the dust off of them.

Sent each other a nice Valentines Day card online and will have dinner out tonight.

My daughter was born on Valentines Day so it's been a significant day for that reason for 30 years now! My ex husband stopped doing anything for Valentines Day very early on in the marriage, and I've been divorced for 15 years now, so it's been a long time since I've thought about the day in any way other than as Paige's birthday.

It's significant to Ron though. He always does something. Last year for example received a delivery of a bouquet of roses, and a box of chocolates. This year he asked me if I'd go on a "special date" as he put it, though I'm not sure where we're going other than for a drink somewhere.

Because it's a special day to him, I also do a little something for him. This year it's a "mushy" card (he loves those!!!!) and a personalized keychain. It's corny, but still, it's just the kind of thing he likes, so..... ;)
