Now I live in Tennesee. Did live in Michigan.
When anti-racism protesters in England pulled down the statue of a 17th Century slave trader and promptly dumped it in the deep waters of a harbour, the message was clear.

Edward Colston's ships are believed to have transported about 80,000 men, women and children from Africa to the Americas. But his memory has been honoured for centuries in his home city of Bristol, which benefited from his vast wealth.

And this accomplishments what? Statues can and will eventually be replaced.

These riots are getting out of hand....I can't watch the TV anymore....
 
I hope that the statue of university founder Emil Faber from the movie Animal House is still standing. His memorable phrase was, "Knowledge is good."

As I've said elsewhere, they have vandalised a statue of Robert the Bruce in Scotland.

He died in 1329, long before Columbus sailed, let alone the first slave ship.

As I said, the usual "rent a mob" who cannot see a bandwagon without they needs must jump on it.
 
The US has had its share of race riots. They have occurred almost since we imported "slaves". We had one massive 4 year long 'protest'. And in Europe, it's hard not to find a plain, that isn't the site of some battle. We humans do not get along well. I don't believe there will a time when riots will not be a part of the human play book. I'm not advocating riots, but only admitting the obvious. They are going to occur whenever some perceive such grievances that they cause them to act out.
