Video game system & games?

The winter weather has me spending a LOT more time sitting around the house and I'm quite bored.
So I'm thinking of getting a video game system.
I've never had one, so I don't know anything about video game systems, or the 'games'.
Are there games that can be played alone? I'm not competitive and just want a relaxing way to spend some time. I surely do NOT want to 'play' with kids online - like I've seen on 'The Big Bang Theory' (they were talking with their opponents with headsets).
I surely don't need the latest and greatest (and most expensive), but I do want one that a variety of games are still available for.
I would like wireless controller(s).

Any advice / recommendations would be appreciated.

My advice to you is that you check out Nintendo's latest called Switch. You can dock it to your TV set and play it with the TV as your main display or un dock it and play it as a hand held unit. There are a variety of Nintendo games available. Yes, many of Nintendo games do appear to be for kids but many are surprisingly deeper in play than the graphics indicate. The variety of games range from RPG's to updated versions of Mario's platform jumping games. And yes, you can play alone.

I bought an inexpensive tablet (Dragon 10 inch) off Amazon ($94) and downloaded slot games, card games and word games..I have our house wired for WIFI and leave it in the living room..

I am using it to post this reply..

Hiya, I've a question about Nintendo Wii not Switch. Just got one with accumulated vouchers. However, the Wii Shop through internet has been closed in 2019.

I'm wondering if I'll still have access to some software other than the regular updates?

Thanks if you can provide an answer, cheers!

PS, I've got the value Mini Classic Nintendo Wii in white. Still no games, and that's how I found out the Wii Shop message online. Hoping to get Wii Sport Resort for the tennis and archery. Still have to get an extra set of remote and nunchuck for daughter.

Sorry but I do not know much about the Nintendo Wii. I know the games you are interested are supposed to be fun though. Did you try Amazon ?
