Video Report of Flash Flooding In N.J., N.Y. & PA

I'm in northeast N.J. We got three emergency alerts about flash flooding on our phones last evening. It was raining cats and dogs, as they say, for several hours. My son called me at 1:10 a.m. to make sure I was alright after seeing a video one of his friends had posted on Facebook of flash flooding in our city, not that far from where I live. I guess he also wanted to make sure my enclosed patio did not flood. He's a trucker and his job postponed the time they were to report to work by about 5 hours. He chose to say home. Wise decision because I heard Jersey City, where his yard is located, got quite flooded as did several major highways across the region. Newark International airport was inundated with water as was the N.Y.C. subway system. Hoboken, N.J. where I go to relax in their waterfront park was also very flooded. Tragically, the death toll is now up to 40 up from 4 earlier today. There were also several tornadoes in N.J. and the region. People are saying this so call "remnant of Ida" was worse than Superstorm Sandy. This video shows historic, mind blowing flooding across the region. I'll probably post more videos later.

@OneEyedDiva I'm glad you and your son are ok. We live in northern New Jersey close to the Delaware water gap. My area is a bit high up so there was no flooding,
I saw other areas on the news that didn't fare as well.
I think the storms and tornadoes in New Jersey have gotten worse in past years.
As a kid I do remember some flooding and hurricanes but tornadoes were almost unheard of.

That video footage is grim. My wife and I are so very relieved that you and your son are safe. He made a wise choice by staying home. Did you experience any power outages? Is that water draining off fairly quickly?

Your son is wise to stay hom for sure, please stay safe. I was watching that flooding on the news and I was shocked. They said 3 1/2 inches of rain fell in Central Park in one hour, the the subway footage was incredible. First incident of such major flooding in the area, this weather is getting worse and worse it seems with climate change. :confused:

Thank you so much Ruth. I'm very glad you're safe as well. Cities with rivers running through are not out of the woods yet since cresting was forecast to take up to 48 hours. Even if the one closest to us crests, my neighborhood won't be affected. In 2009 I predicted that there would be more storms which would be more severe. A couple of years later, scientists came out and said it publicly. I remember the year because I made the prediction in an Eons group where we discussed weather patterns and natural disasters. Re: Jersey tornadoes. I was surprised when I did a Wiki search when my cousin mentioned the same thing and found there have been more tornadoes in Jersey than I realized. @Pecos Thank you again so much for your concern MB and please thank Mrs. Pecos too. Some of the water drained fairly fast in certain areas but the problem is we have 3 rivers (in particular) in N.J. that are expected to crest by today's end. So more flooding is expected. We didn't lose power in my city (that I know of) but there were some power outages in some of the affected areas. Check out the video in the next reply that NICE posted on FB. I asked him to please put it on YT so I could share it elsewhere. You know him...he had to put music to it. :) And check out what looks like a snake swimming in that water! This is why I hope I never have to wade through flood waters!

@SeaBreeze Thank you so much. Yes, I was relieved when my son told me he was staying home. But he works for J.B. Hunt and they are good about not sending their drivers out in harms way.
 
That first video One Eyed Diva, was shown on our TV News last night,
really frightening, they also said that the deaths were mainly caused
by people sheltering in their basements/cellars, that really is sad, they
thought that they were safe!

All in the North East USA please be careful and don't take any chances,
trucks, autos and houses can be replaced if destroyed, your lives are not
replaceable.

Glad to hear that you and yours are safe, but then y'all have common sense.
Hoping maybe they'll finally realize the risk for NYC subway riders. If i lived there i would take the trains as little as possible. As i understand they already have to routinely pump water out of some sections.

Yes, so far the updated news reports speak about those who died in their homes and cars. I'm sure those people in their homes never expected to die like that...as you said. They thought they were doing the safe thing. It's so very sad! Thank you so much for your concern Mike.
@charry I'm glad your friends are safe. @Lewkat I'm glad you and yours are safe. It's not hard to believe that areas surrounding Madison were adversely affected.
@Pinky and @feywon Thank you so much. Feywon when I started going to Jazzmobile in Harlem (that was decades ago), I used to take the bus from Jersey then hop the subway. I hated riding the subway and must've mentioned it to a co-worker who told me I could take a bus from our town that would put me close to where Jazzmobile was and I just had to walk a few blocks. I never took another subway since. The way things are these days, you couldn't pay me to take the subway!
