I live in AZ where the sun shines basically every day but I've been staying in more the last several months...like everyone else (hopefully). I'm not sure it has effected my Vitamin D deficiency but I was surprised by my reading from my recent blood work. Below 10 is severe deficiency. Mine was 8.1.
I did some reading about Vitamin D, and even though I knew it was derived from mostly sunshine, I didn't know that there aren't many foods that supply this vitamin and that a lack of it can cause bone loss, HBP, diabetes, infections and immune disorders, some forms of cancer and multiple sclerosis and kidney/liver disease.
I don't think I've ever had my vitamin levels checked before by any doctor. I went back in my medical folder that I keep and there's nothing on any of them from many years ago. I also checked my husband's labs and he's never had his levels checked either. This is a new doctor to me and she seems very thorough. She told me to start taking a Vitamin D supplement.
Make sure your doctor is checking your levels also.
